Kodansha today announced that Demon Slayer – Mangaka Receives Award, Koyoharu Gotouge has the second “Noma Publishing Culture Award” received. The publisher awards this award to people who have made outstanding contributions to the publishing industry, in particular to the “reinvention of the publishing industry”.

Mangaka Receives Award, which comes with a cash prize of one million yen, was given to Gotouge because of the impressive growth of the “Demon Slayer” franchise. This refers to both manga and anime, games, novels, and spin-offs. Each of these works saw immense growth in the entire Japanese publishing industry in 2019 and 2020.

Gotouge published “Demon Slayer” from February 2016 to May 2020 in “Weekly Shonen Jump” magazine. The manga ends with 205 chapters. The publisher Shueisha published so far 22 out of 23 volumes in Japan that are already over 100 million copies sold have.

Kamado Tanjirou is the oldest son in a family without a father. One day when he goes into town to sell charcoal, rumors about an oni who are alleged to be in the area mean he spends the night instead of going home in the evening. When he comes home the next day, he finds out that there was apparently an Oni who cruelly murdered almost his entire family and only barely survived his sister Nezuko. Will he be able to get revenge and save his sister?
