The Haikyuu!! Season 5 release date may be over the horizon and the Haikyuu!! manga alreaded ended. But when will the fifth season of the popular volleyball anime series return?
Haikyuu is one of the largest Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate. The story of Haikyuu revolves around a small-sized boy, who wants to become a volleyball player despite his small stature. The first season of the series which consisted of 25 episodes aired on Anime TV between April and September 2014.
Will there be a Haikyuu!! Season 5?
In December, following the last episode’s transmission via Crunchyroll, the English-language Haikyu!! Twitter account put out a message thanking the “anime team” for their hard work, and adding, “Looking forward to the continuation!” This seems to imply it’s expecting Haikyuu Season 5 to arrive at some point.
Haikyuu!! Season 5 Release Date: When Will Release?
Anime television series adaptation by Production I.G (“Vinland Saga Season 2, Guilty Crown, Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2″) aired from April 2014 to September 2014, with 25 episodes. A second season aired from October 2015 to March 2016, with 25 episodes. A third season aired from October 2016 to December 2016, with 10 episodes. A fourth season was announced during the Jump Festa ’19 and was planned for release in two cours, the first cour of 13 episodes aired from January to April 2020, and the second cour of 12 episodes aired from October to December 2020.
The fourth season was delayed for the Coronavirus pandemic. Haikyuu!! Season 4 Episode 25 was released on December 19, 2020. At the end of June 2020, a music producer in Japan, Yoshiki Kobayashi informed fans that recording for the Haikyuu!! Season 5 had already started.
Currently, there is no official confirmation on it but a delay due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic seems inevitable. Once the news is officially confirmed, this article will be updated with the relevant information.
Assuming from the December 2018 renewal and the January 2020 airdate of Season 4, it can be expected that “Haikyuu!” has a one-year production cycle, which means that whenever Haikyuu Season 5 is actually announced, the show will probably return (possibly in a split-cour format, again), 12-13 months after that.

Plot of Haikyuu!! Season 5
Haikyuu!! Season 5 could center on a fresh plot not connected to Season 4 or the earlier seasons. It is likely the upcoming season will focus on the match between Karasuno High and Nekoma High.
Haikyuu Season 5 would highlight how Hinata goes to Karasuno High School to learn Volleyball and even qualifies for nationals. Season 4 ended by showing Hinata looking distressed and out of control after missing the opportunity to score a point early in the match. Tobio Kageyama warns him that if Hinata missed the chance again during a match, next time he will never set the ball for him.
One of the Reddit users predicts “Make season 5 the Nekoma match, and a shorter season. May be 9 episodes for this match. If they want, they could tack the Mujinazaka/Fukurodani match on at the end to bump up the episode count to like 11-12.”
Based on the way that the manga’s plot is arranged, it’s expected that Haikyuu!! Season 5 will adapt the ending of the Tokyo Nationals story arc, which ended with Chapter 368.
However, the fifth season’s ending will likely tease Haikyuu!! Season 6 by finishing with the beginning of the final story arc.
