Will there ever be The God of High School Season 2? Will it return?
By now, you must have heard of the name ‘The God of High School’ already. It is probably one of the most popular anime series that you can find right now, never mind the statistics. Despite having a similar name to ‘Tower of God‘, they are two completely different anime due to the story approach. The only similarities between them are the fact that both are adaptations of a popular webtoon series.
The God of High School began life as a manhwa series released as a webtoon written and illustrated by Yongje Park. If you aren’t familiar with the term ‘manhwa’, it’s basically the South Korean word for comic books. The manhwa series has been serialized in Naver’s webtoon platform Naver Webtoon since April 8, 2011.
The manhwa chapters are being collected in volumes by Imageframe under their Root label since January 31, 2017. The manhwa series The God of High School was one of the first webtoons to receive official English translations by LINE Webtoon in July 2014. Because of that, The God of High School has attracted much attention from people worldwide.
The God of High School Season 2 Renewal Status
Later, an anime adaptation of Yongje Park’s popular ongoing manhwa series was announced in February 2020. The adaptation was adapted by MAPPA, the studio that can be considered as one of the most popular studios of all time, best known for their shounen anime releases such as Jujutsu Kaisen, the final season of Attack on Titan, Kakegurui, Terror in Resonance, and last but not least, Dororo.
The anime series The God of High School was first premiered on July 6, 2020, and ran for thirteen episodes before concluding on September 28. After the first season has ended, many of the fans are craving a sequel. So, what is the renewal status of The God of High School Season 2?
As of now, we haven’t received any words from the author or the studio regarding The God of High School Season 2. We don’t know whether there will be a season renewal or not, but luckily, the show has not been canceled either so there might be a chance of return.
Will The God of High School Season 2 be possible?
It is hard to speculate anything at this point, but The God of High School Season 2 would likely be possible. The main reason is that there is more than enough source material for another run. The first season has only covered the first 112 out of 526 chapters of the manhwa series.
Currently, the manhwa’s ending is on the horizon. It has been stated that the final battle of the final arc is already near. However, we will have to wait for a while, as the author has announced that the manhwa will be on a hiatus due to his poor health. Once the author has recovered, he will continue making more chapters to end the series.
However, there is one thing to consider regarding The God of High School Season 2. Unfortunately, the first season of the anime series has received a lot of hate from the fans. The reason is that many of them are left unsatisfied with the way MAPPA adapted the story of the manhwa series. In several forums, they stated that the adaptation was rushed, and because of that, the story becomes messy and went all over the place. Let’s just hope that it won’t greatly affect the sales for the worse.
In conclusion, it is still possible that The God of High School Season 2 will return. However, it seems like we have to wait for a little while, as MAPPA is currently very busy with the current project, Attack on Titan, and upcoming projects such as Chainsaw Man. Expect to see The God of High School Season 2 in 2023 at the earliest.
