After its release in 2019, the French series “Mortel” has managed to conquer thousands of subscribers of the streaming platform around the world. After a long wait on July 2nd, Mortel Season 2 is back on Netflix. The second season of the famous French teen fantasy drama composed of 6 episodes promises to be even more epic than the previous one. But what awaits us in this sequel? This is what we will discover together.
What is “Mortal” about?
Before talking about Mortel Season 2, as a reminder, but also for those who have not yet been able to see the title that is available since November 2019 on Netflix (AJ and The Queen), “Mortel” is a fantastic series that was created by Frédéric Garcia (Sam, Skam France, A Great Family). It follows the story of Sofiane and Victor, who are bound by a pact they made to a voodoo god, Obé, to enable them to solve and avenge the murder of Sofiane’s brother, Reda. Following this pact, Obé then grants them supernatural powers in order to help them in their quest for truth and revenge.
Sofiane is thus given the power to manipulate the actions of others, while Victor can read into their thoughts as Professor Xavier would in the “X-Men”. But, for it to work, the two friends have to be close to one another. A situation that is not too much to the liking of two friends who then decide to ask young Luisa for help to free themselves from Obé’s grip on them and banish him from this world. A third character who has no power, but practices voodoo with his grandmother and who completes our small team.
In summary, “Mortel” is therefore a superb French series that allows us to explore another facet of teenagers, but also voodoo. All this, in a dark atmosphere where the producers looked at the dark side of the superheroes, as is the case of “The Boys” or “Watchmen”.
Mortel Season 2: Plot and Characters
For Mortel Season 2, we should expect new twists (Spoiler Alert), since the first season ended with the death of the demon Obé and great surprise, the return of Reda among the living. Many theories have circulated in recent months on the web concerning the rest of the story, but what is likely, while waiting for more details of the production, is that it should give us more answers about the disappearance of Reda as well as his resurrection. The death of the obese demon should also create new problems for the young, such as the arrival in the world of his parents’ mortals, whom he mentioned at the beginning of the series in order to take revenge.
After defeating the demon in Season 1, Luisa and her voodoo magic should also be at the center of this new salvo of episodes. But for now, these are just theories, so we will have to wait a little longer before having more details about the plot of this sequel.
However, even if the production has not yet said anything about the script, Frédéric Garcia did not hesitate to drop a small clue during an interview, he said:
The goal we talked about when we created the series was to say that for season 1, we were with Sofiane, Victor and Luisa, and that in season 2 we try to open up the universe.”
Except on the side of the characters and the cast, no big changes were made by the production. We will therefore find our three teenagers, Carl Malapa in the role of Sofiane (Ten percent, My Father’s Forest), Nemo Schiffman in the role of Victor (The Emperor of Paris, The Promise of Dawn), and Manon Bresch in the role of Luisa (Black Baron, The Greats, Better Days).
At their side, we will also have Corentin Fila in the role of Obé, Anaïs Thomas in the role of Audrey, Firmine Richard in the role of Elizabeth, Raphaëlle Agogué in the role of Céline, Marvin Dubart in the role of Bastien and finally Sami Outalbali in the role of Reda. The French actor will also be part of the cast of the sequel to “Sex Education“.
For fans, this is an opportunity to look back on the first season or if you have not yet seen it, we advise you to do so before seeing Mortel Season 2 now available on Netflix.
