Netflix describes Worst Roommate Ever as,
“Violent con artists. Stone-cold killers. These terrifying true stories unveil some of the worst cohabitation experiences one could ever imagine.”
Expanding on that, the official synopsis, says,
“The Worst Roommate Ever highlights four harrowing tales of seemingly harmless roommates turning into real-life nightmares for their unsuspecting victims when their malevolent and sometimes violent intentions are revealed.”
The five-part true crime series is based on four dangerous criminals who wriggle into the homes and lives of innocent people and turn their existence into hell. Each scary story comes from a different person in a different location at a different time.
KC Joy shares an apartment with war veteran Maribel Ramos, in Orange County, California. When Maribel goes missing for days and is finally found dead, Joy is arrested and convicted of murder.
In 2018, a New York Magazine article covered the experience of Alex Miller from Philadelphia renting out his apartment to Jed Creek. Things start to take a turn for the worse when a supposedly nice tenant starts claiming his apartment as his own.
Going back decades, the series also includes incidents from the 80s. Dorothea Puente runs a boarding house in Sacramento, California, where she hosts the homeless, the elderly, and vulnerable tenants. She systematically drugged them, cashed their social security checks, and eventually buried them. In 1993, Puente was convicted of murder.
And finally, there’s Youssef Khater, who made the news for defrauding his tenants in Santiago, Chile. Discovered as an international swindler, Youssef conned them for large sums of money and viciously attacked them. While these stories are disturbing and gruesome, all these incidents are the ultimate testament to the worst experience you can imagine. if that’s what you are looking for, then Worst Roommate should definitely be on your watchlist.
