The Crown is one of the most popular Netflix Originals, so the life of British royalty is extremely interesting. The Crown Season 5 will be released in 2022. The good news is that filming started in London in June 2021, so everything is well on track.
Royals are not happy with The Crown
Will there be noise about The Crown again? Not every member of the Royal Family of the United Kingdom can appreciate The Crown. In an interview with talk show host James Corden a while ago, Prince Harry said: “They don’t pretend to bring the news. They don’t pretend to bring the news.” He did add that the series gives a pretty good picture of a royal’s life: “What’s the pressure that comes with putting duty and service above your family and everything else and what comes of it.”
The Crown Season 5 Release Date
Either way, Netflix (Virgin River Season 4, The Witcher Season 2 & Young Royals Season 2) isn’t going to let itself get knocked out of the field and is coming up with a new season of The Crown. We don’t know exactly when that’s going to premiere, but we can take a chance. The filming started in mid-June. That means the new episodes won’t be released until 2022. The expectation is towards the end of the year. This is because both The Crown Season 5 and season 6 will be recorded in one go.
Will there be The Crown Season 6?
For a long time, The Crown Season 5 was supposed to mean the end of The Crown, but the creators already saw their minds wander: there are still a lot of stories to tell about the royals and they don’t fit into one season at all, do they? They got their way and last year it was announced that there would also be a sixth season, so that the story does not have to be unraveled. The Crown, of course, deserves a well-thought-out ending!
No Meghan Markle
There were rumors for a moment that The Crown Season 6 might be about prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage, and the split between the two and the royal family. However, screenwriter Peter Morgan shot down the idea: “Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey. I don’t know what’s going to happen and how that journey will end. I prefer to write about things that happened at least 20 years ago. This way you have enough time and distance to really understand something and to map out someone’s role, position, and its relevance.”
Plot of The Crown Season 5
Back to Season 5, because we do have a bit of an idea of the plot of the new episodes of The Crown. At the end of Season 4, Margaret Thatcher leaves Downing Street after a period of “rule” of no less than 11.5 years. Meanwhile, Prince Charles and Princess Diana are no longer happy in their marriage, and the former wants to file for divorce, thanks to the fact that his mistress Camilla asks him not to. Diana does see bread in this, because she wants to find her happiness elsewhere. Unfortunately for the royals, Queen Elizabeth forbids this party, because of a divorce… That’s way too civil, isn’t it?
Season 4 ends in 1990, but where Season 5 picks up the thread is as yet unknown. In the 1990s, at least enough happened with regard to the royals. Consider, for example, the divorces of Princess Anne, Prince Charles, and Prince Andrew, but of course also the tragic death of Princess Diana.
Cast of The Crown Season 5
The cast of The Crown will get a big makeover for The Crown Season 5. Queen Elizabeth is played by Imelda Staunton (known as Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter films). Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes and Tomorrow Never Dies) takes on the role of Elizabeth’s husband Prince Philip. Lesley Manville (Maleficent) takes on the role of Princess Margaret, where Elizabeth Debicki (Tenet) plays Princess Diana. The role of Prince Charles is played by Dominic West (A Walk to Remember).
