It is the series that saved many throughout lockdown, initially released on May 1st 2020, ‘Trying’ is a British comedy show following the bumpy journey towards parenthood.
Created by Andy Wolton, the series follows Nikki and Jason, a couple that wants to become parents but are unable to bear a baby. So, they choose to adopt one.
Having been invested in the skit’s first two seasons, many are curious to see if a third season is on the way.
Premiering in May 2020, ‘Trying’ is one of those series that keeps the usual television tropes intact, however, the way that the plot is treated makes all the difference. The series revolves around a young British couple who are trying to have a baby, but back-to-back issues ruin their chances. Therefore, they seek other options such as adoption.
But instead of getting better for Nikki and Jason, things are going downhill. The series is released on Apple TV+ and happens to be one of the most successful comedies on the relatively new streaming platform. After the first two successful seasons, the producers recently announced that the series is being renewed for a third season. Let’s find out everything we know so far about ‘Trying’ Season 3!
Starring Rafe Spall and Esther Smith as Jason and Nikki respectively, the series premiered on Apple TV+ in May 2020. Following instant critical and commercial success, the series was soon renewed for a second season. The second season, which was released in May 2021, was received better than the first season, which forced the producers to immediately announce a third season with enthusiasm. And now that the wait for season three has begun, let’s dive into what the show is all about.
Trying Season 3 Has Been Renewed
Good news, Trying season 3 is confirmed!
‘Trying’ is set in modern London and talks about the modern issues of a millennial couple, Jason and Nikki. They had been trying to get pregnant for years, but they finally started looking for other options when they realized that trying to conceive naturally was not working out.
The first season mostly had to do with their struggles as a married couple looking to be parents and setting the stage. In the first season, the couple decided that adoption was the way to go, not realizing how tedious the process was for them. At the start of the second season, they had been accepted for adoption but now comes the biggest struggle, finding the right child for adoption. After much struggle, they finally meet a little girl named Putri, but then again, it’s not as easy as they expected.
Behind all the pessimistic humor, the series focuses on the real challenges modern-day couples face as they try to live out unconventional ways of parenting, such as adoption. When we see the world of ‘Trying’ through Jason and Nikki’s perspective window, we understand their emotions. This is probably one of the main reasons behind the success of the show. Universal ‘human relations’ under all that high drama and comedy is portrayed honestly.
While Esther and Rafe make their lead roles incredibly believable and utterly captivating, there’s a swarm of stellar supporting casts to back them up. Imelda Staunton deserves a special mention here. As the couple’s eccentric adoption agent, she fills the frame with life whenever she’s on screen.
We have every reason to believe that she will also be a part of season three of the show. Among all the rest of the supporting cast, we can expect Darren Boyd, Oliver Chris, and Ophelia Lovibond to return aside from the main characters Jason and Nikki.
