Created by Roberto Patino, the original HBO Max series premiered in 2022. The series is based on Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli’s DC graphic novel series of the same name.
Since its release, the series has received positive reviews from critics. With a complex and gripping saga of politics and family ties that uncovers multiple aspects of human nature and society, the series has endless potential for follow-up seasons. Therefore, viewers of the show are curious to know if there will be a second season. In that case, allow us to share everything we know about ‘DMZ’ season 2!
DMZ Season 2: Potential Release Date
‘DMZ’ season 1 premieres on March 17, 2022 on HBO Max. The first season of the drama series contains four episodes, each about an hour long. All four episodes were released on the shared service on the same day. ‘DMZ’ has received positive reviews from critics, praising its appearance and visual style. However, some critics reacted negatively to the overall narrative and tempo.
As far as season two is concerned, here’s what we know so far. Neither HBO Max nor the show’s creator Roberto Patino have made any official statement regarding a possible continuation season. The network hasn’t officially canceled the series yet, so viewers can still hold on to hopes for a second season coming true. However, ‘DMZ’ has been marketed as a miniseries, suggesting there are no immediate plans for season 2.
Nonetheless, if the series proves to be popular enough with viewers and meets streaming platform performance standards, a second season could be given a confirmation in the coming months. Plus, the comic books on which the series is based can easily provide inspiration for future episodes. Therefore, should HBO Max officially renew the series in the coming months, we might see ‘DMZ’ season 2 premiere sometime in Q2 2023, at the earliest.
DMZ Season 2: Expected Cast
In ‘DMZ,’ Rosario Dawson (‘Daredevil’) plays Alma Ortega, a medic who becomes a driving force at the DMZ. Benjamin Bratt (‘Modern Family’) plays Parco Delgado, a mob boss and candidate for governor. Freddy Miyares (‘When They See Us’) wrote the role of Skel, the henchman who works for Parco. Hoon Lee, Jordan Preston Carter, and Venus Ariel appear as Wilson, Odi, and Nico. Additionally, Rey Gallegos (Cesar), Jade Wu (Susie), and Nora Dunn (Oona) appear in recurring capacities.
In a potential second season, we expect most of the main cast to reprise their roles. However, Hoon Lee is unlikely to return given the death of his character in the first season. Most of the supporting cast members will also likely appear if the show is updated. Apart from that, we might get to see some new faces joining the cast for season 2.
DMZ Season 2: Expected Plot
In ‘DMZ’ season 1, Alma looks for his son, who is now named Skel. At the end of season 1, Skel reconciles with his mother and helps him defeat his father, Parco Delgado. After Parco’s evil plan ends, Skel leaves the DMZ in search of a new life. Meanwhile, Alma decides to stay behind and becomes the governor of the DMZ.
A potential second season can focus on the challenges Alma faces as she builds a new social order in the DMZ. In addition, new developments in the conflict between the US Army and the Free States Army could change the political order in the DMZ. Season 2 could also shed light on Alma’s relationship with Odi and Skel’s life outside the DMZ.
