Peach Boy Riverside, one of the many anime that has been aired in Summer 2021, the season where new animes start to show promising presence to the community, and Peach Boy Riverside is no exception in that matter.
The anime is a shounen and it belongs to one of the most leading genres in the anime society, fantasy. Despite having the same nature, Peach Boy Riverside offers anime watchers more than regular shounen in the market, as the anime holds something special that only a few shounen anime possesses. It has some elements from the Japanese folktale Momotarou, a famous story of a boy who was born from a peach floating on a river and grows up slaying demons called oni to save his beloved hometown.
Peach Boy Riverside is an adaptation of a manga under the same title written by Cool-Kyou Shinja. You have probably heard of the name before, as it’s the same author that made one of the most famous fantasy/comedy anime, Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon. With Yohane working as the illustrator, Peach Boy Riverside has been published digitally in English by Kodansha Comics USA since November 10, 2020. In respect, it has also been published physically since June 29, 2021.
The show is produced by Asahi Production, the studio that has not shown that much of a presence in the anime community, so probably most of you are unfamiliar with it, but the studio is not something that you can call a newbie, as Asahi Production has been up and running since 1973. However, despite having the senior title already, its most famous show in the form of Medaka Box is not actually that ‘famous’ if compared to most new anime in terms of the member numbers in MyAnimeList.
When will Peach Boy Riverside Season 2 be released?
The first season of Peach Boy was first aired on July 1, 2021, and has finally come to a conclusion with a total of 12 episodes on September 16, 2021. Although the anime has scored an average score and has received a lot of negative feedback in MyAnimeList, some of the fans are still yearning for a second season. So, will there be Peach Boy Riverside Season 2? If yes, when will it be released?
Unfortunately, up to this date, there is no news nor information on whether Peach Boy Riverside will receive a second season or not. However, it does not mean that there will never be a second season as a sequel from the first season, as there are a few key factors that could determine the future of the new season.
What does it take for making Peach Boy Riverside Season 2 possible?
First of all, the availability of the source material. It would be impossible to continue a series if there are simply not enough chapters from the manga/light novel, but fortunately, in Peach Boy Riverside’s case, the source material would be sufficient enough for another run. The anime had a stopping point on the 7th volume 24 chapters, while the manga is currently sitting on the 10th volume and is currently still ongoing. So, within the next year, Asahi Production would have more than enough source material to continue the anime series.
Of course, the availability of the source material is not the only key factor for a new season approval. It would also depend on the popularity of the series and also the sales from the blue-ray disks. As mentioned earlier, the anime series has been getting a lot of negative reviews from the audience and the reason for it mostly lies between the anime not following the chronological order of the manga, which some may feel like the plot points from the anime series are being disjointed or disconnected to each other.
Actually, there is a chronological version that follows the plot and storyline exactly from the manga, but it’s only available through the anime store, while the vast majority of the audience is watching the broadcast version, which is once again, not in chronological order. The real question now is whether the negative reviews would affect the sales of blue-rays and the revenue of streaming services.
At the end of the day, if everything goes well, we would likely get Peach Boy Riverside Season 2 in the near future, the best bet would be sometime around 2023. All you can do now to increase the chance of it happening is by supporting the series by purchasing the blue-rays or the manga and recommend the anime series to your friends.
