Leonardo DiCaprio back at it again with a new TV series. With the title of The Devil in The White City, here is what we know so far.
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are a fantastic duo. Both of them have produced many blockbuster hits—as actor and director—such as Shutter Island, The Departed, and many more. And now, they collaborate again as executive producers for the upcoming Hulu TV series with the title of The Devil in The White City.
The TV show will be based on the 2003 non-fiction novel by Erik Larson with the title The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America. The story will revolve around the history set in 1893 Chicago World’s Fair.
It highlights two men who seems unrelated: an architect named Daniel Burnham who designed the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair and a man who is called as the world’s first serial killer, Henry H. Holmes. Holmes owns the World’s Fair Hotel which is later being called as the Murder Castle.
The fact is, Leonardo DiCaprio has bought the movie rights 10 years ago, and ever since he has been struggling to take off the project. And for this time, it seems like he finally did it.
Back in 2015, Leonardo DiCaprio asked Scorsese to direct the adaptation of the book, which at that time was supposed to be a movie. Both of them previously has worked together as well, one of the projects is The Wolf of Wall Street. In the initial movie plan, Leonardo DiCaprio will play as Holmes. It can still be the case with the recent TV series plan.
In the series, Leonardo DiCaprio and Scorsese will still serve as executive producers, so they might stick to the plan regarding the cast as well.
There are not much that has been revealed about The Devil in The White City. But here is what we know so far based on the information that we have gathered.
The Devil in The White City: When Will It be Released?
Leonardo DiCaprio has a lot on his plate. He takes another projects as well such as Killers of the Flower Moon and Roosevelt, where he plays the role as Theodore Roosevelt. Both of the projects were announced before The Devil in The White City, so we cannot know yet which of them will be finished first.
We don’t even know whether the production of The Devil in The White City has been under development, even after 15 years the series first announced. Hulu (The Dropout) hasn’t revealed any release date either. So little information has been given, including the cast. Well, it is safe to assume that it won’t be finished this year, and probably it will be out in 2023.
The Devil in The White City: What Is It About?
Since the plot of the series The Devil in The White City has not been revealed yet, we can find out the story from what it is in the book.
So the story focuses on two men: the architect Daniel H. Burnham and the hotel owner Henry H. Holmes. The story goes as Burnham tries to design the monumental building Chicago World’s Fair while Holmes builds his Murder Castle.
Holmes then is reported to kill around 200 people to build his hotel brand and being named as America’s first serial killer. Long story short, the two men’s fate becomes intertwined with the events at the expo.
The Devil in The White City: The Cast
The list of the cast also hasn’t been revealed yet. But we can assume that Leonardo DiCaprio himself will play the role as Henry H. Holmes.
And the exciting news is that the Matrix star Keanu Reeves is reported will join the project as well. We may assume that Keanu Reeves will play as Burnham.
We still need to wait for further announcement regarding another cast, release date, or even a trailer. Until then, at least we get some heads up now for the highly anticipated The Devil in The White City.
