Netflix has published the official tweet, according to which The Society is coming back for a Season 2. No specific date has been set for the upcoming premiere, but the announcement had revealed that the next installment of the web series will appear on Netflix in 2021.
Why was The Society season 2 Cancelled?
The Society Netflix drama series billed as a modern-day ‘Lord of the Flies’ set in the New England suburbs, has been canceled by the streaming giant due to coronavirus-related logistical issues. The show, which was filmed in Massachusetts in 2018, had already been renewed for season 2 back in July 2019.
To be honest, nothing is surprising in that Netflix opted to pick up the teen drama for another round, given the positive statistics of the debut season of The Society.
On Rotten Tomatoes, The Society Season 1 holds a score of 7.37/10 and a 86% approval rating from critics, while viewers have evaluated the web series at 3.8/5 and have given a 81% rating. On Metacritic, the figures were a bit lower, yet still favorable, 66/100 and 6.5/10, among critics/viewers, respectively. On IMDb, The Society has a rating of 7.1/10 based on over 23k votes (as of today).
