Unfortunately, fans of the comedy series Aj and the Queen has to face disappointment as Netflix has officially canceled production of the RuPaul-led series. ‘Aj and the Queen’ ends the first season with ten epic episodes. The episodes received encouraging positive reviews after debuting on January 10, 2020. Will RuPaul’s new show return for Aj and The Queen Season 2?
The story focuses on Red Ruby (Robert Lee), whose boyfriend ran away with all his life savings, leaving him stranded. With the money missing, Ruby’s dream of opening a drag club must also be thrown in the trash.
In an attempt to start over, Robert decides to go on a cross-country drag tour, unaware of AJ’s presence in the back of his RV. Throughout the ten-episode long tour, Robert and AJ bond and develop a beautiful father-son bond as they face many obstacles together.
AJ and The Queen Season 2: Reason For Cancelation
On March 6, 2020, the series was canceled in its debut year. The ongoing controversy regarding the tv series is thought to be the cause of the cancellation.
Ru made the announcement Friday on Twitter. See the full statement below:
End of the road for “AJ and The Queen” @Netflix has decided to not extend our road trip across America. Thank you for all the love & support. We’re so very proud of the work. @mizzizzyg @mlwooley @tiacarrere @joshsegarra @katerinavictoria @mwilkas #AJandTheQueen pic.twitter.com/0W50sTW4kU

In His review of the show, Variety critic Daniel D’Addario said that sadly the series didn’t appeak too much to viewers beyond RuPaul and his character.
“Unfortunately, Netflix’s ‘AJ and the Queen’ has little to recommend it other than Ru himself, bringing to bear the star’s charisma on a tonally uneven, shaky story and trusting that glamour will carry the day,” wrote D’Addario.
However, there is still a continuation of the show for those that has binge-watched the previous season in the hopea that Netflix (Ozark) will change their mind.
AJ and The Queen Season 2: Who Will Be In It?
The comedy series has a lot of stars working hard to make season 1 a success. It definitely would not be fair not to mention them. film centers around RuPaul Charles as Robert Lee. After being robbed by his girlfriend, Rupal goes on a recovery journey and somehow ends up with AJ as Izzy G, Tia Career as Lady Danger, Michael Leon Wobley as Louis aka Cocoa Butter, and Katerina Tannenbaum as Brianna Josh Segarra.
AJ and The Queen Season 2: What Would Have Been The Storyline?
The first season follows the journey of Ruby Red, a man that wants to become the best drag Queen in the US. His path intersects with AJ who joins him on his journey. The bond between Robert and AJ greatly improved and Robert felt they could be more than just friends – more like father and son.
Also, Season 1 ends with most of the storyline left up in the air: Louis walks in on Officer Kennedy and another man and storms off in anger.
If there’s going to be a Season 2, we might have seen the two reconcile. Brianna had reunited with AJ in the final scene of the finale but it was clear that AJ was furious with his mother and that Robert was very sad to see the 10 year old go.
There were several transgender cameos in season 1 of AJ and the Queen; RuPaul’s Drag Race fans will no doubt be looking forward to seeing more of this queen in Season 2. Latrice Royale, Ginger Minj, and Trinity the Tuck had guest roles in season 1; maybe their characters will come back if there is a next season.
Trinity the Tuck, who played Danielle Dupri, was crowned Miss Drag USA in the final. However, her crown was stolen by Lady Danger. It will be interesting to see if this story continues in the show.
