My Next Life as a Villainess, one of the few romance comedy anime that has successfully stood out in Summer 2021 alongside Kanojo mo Kanojo and Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy. The anime adaptation of My Next Life as a Villainess is done by SILVER LINK, the studio that is also responsible for making another two consecutive titles that have been aired in the same season such as the ongoing anime Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai and The Dungeon of Black Company.
The source material, which is a light novel under the same title, is originally written by Satoru Yamaguchi on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in July 2014. Several years later, in August 2015, Ichijinsha began publishing the novel with Nami Hidaka as the illustrator. The light novel can be enjoyed worldwide as the English version of the novel has been licensed by J-Novel Club in September 2018. The series doesn’t stop there, because Hidaka has also begun a manga adaptation in August 2017 through Comic ZERO-SUM. Seven Seas Entertainment is currently publishing the manga in English and has recently shipped the eight-volume on July 8, 2021.

The first season of My Next Life as a Villainess was aired on April 5, 2020, and ended on June 21, 2021, with 12 episodes. It was followed by a second season that has been premiered on July 3, 2021, before concluding with 12 episodes on September 18, 2021. Right after the release of the last episode, there is an announcement that the anime will receive yet another sequel in the form of a movie. When will My Next Life as a Villainess Movie be released?
As of now, we haven’t received any words from SILVER LINK regarding the release date of the movie. They didn’t include it in the announcement. However, fans could expect the movie to be aired sometime around Winter or Spring 2023 at the earliest. The story follows a girl that is being reborn in the world of Fortune Lover, one of the games that she used to play. The character that she turns out to be in the game is Catarina Claes, the game’s main antagonist who has to face a terrible fate on literally every ending. As she gets to retain her past memories, she will try to escape the doomed destiny using her extensive knowledge of the game.
However, it will not be as easy as it gets on the surface, as she needs to be cautious as to not set off death flags that may worsen the fate that she is about to receive. In order the save the lives of everyone around her, she strives to be not the heroine, but the villainess.
