Princess Principal is a rare original gem that everyone needs to know about. Although some people have said that it is one of the best anime of 2017, Princess Principal still has a long way to being popular according to MyAnimeList’s statistics. Many users on the platform were mentioning that Princess Principal deserved more popularity, especially if we consider the quality of the story and plot that the show offers.
On the surface, Princess Principal looks like your typical show about school and girls. The title is the main reason behind that, it could easily mislead anyone to have perceptions. Some people might think that it’s a slice-of-life show without any particular plot, but Princess Principal is nothing like that. The show actually tells the story of a group of girls who work as undercover spies in the prestigious Queen’s Mayfaire school. Each episode is filled with different cases that they need to solve and complete.

As mentioned earlier, Princess Principal is an original show animated by Actas and Studio 3Hz. Actas is the studio best known for its most popular anime series entitled Girls & Panzer, while Studio 3Hz is well known for its anime releases such as Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online and Dimension W.
The anime series Princess Principal was first premiered on July 9, 2017, and for twelve episodes before concluding on September 24 of the same year. After the first season has ended, many of the fans are craving a sequel. So, what is the renewal status of Princess Principal Season 2?
As of now, neither of the studios have confirmed Princess Principal Season 2. However, what they did confirm is the release of a sequel in the form of a six-part anime film entitled Princess Principal: Crown Handler. It acts as a sequel to the main series.
Currently, only the first two movies have been released. The first part was planned to be released on April 10, 2020, but due to the pandemics, it was postponed to February 11, 2021. The second part was premiered on September 23, 2021. The release date of the remaining three parts was not yet confirmed by the studio. However, you can expect the third movie to be released sometime around late 2022 at the earliest.
When will Princess Principal Season 2 be released?
As stated earlier, the studio has not confirmed Princess Principal Season 2. Its current whereabouts still remain a mystery.
The main reason is that the studio is currently busy producing the movies. As for a second season, they may or may not announce it after the release of the last part of the movie. Once again, it’s all in the studio’s hands, and all we can do as a fan is to wait for the further announcement of the anime series from them.
It is best to not expect anything at this point. It would take us another three or more years for all the movies to be released. And probably by that time, the studio would leave the series already and they will probably focus on their upcoming projects.
