A Danish series The Rain pictures the post-apocalyptic moment, which combines science fiction and thrill. It might relate to our current situation that is surrounded by the pandemic, which makes this series much more intriguing. It’s not surprising that people are hoping for The Rain season 4.
The first season of The Rain was released on 4 May 2018 on Netflix (365 Days), and the next year on 17 May the season two came up. It was followed by the third season on 6 August 2020.
It tells us the story of two siblings who try to survive in the world where there’s a fatal virus that annihilated the human population ten years before. That deadly virus comes with the rain, which will kill anyone who touches it.
The two siblings are facing their journey guided by their father’s notebook that explains about the virus. They join other groups, face dangerous situations, and have to deal with other tense moments, in order to find their missing father. They have to survive by not getting wet from the rain or in contact with those who are infected.
This series is directed by Kenneth Kainz and Natasha Arthy, and already produced three seasons of it. There are initially rumors about the next season, but will there be The Rain season 4?
Will there be a The Rain Season 4?
Unfortunately, Netflix has announced that they will not renew The Rain to season 4. It gives some of the fans a bit of disappointment, but it means that the season three gives us a clear ending.
Netflix (The One) didn’t provide any explanation either regarding the discontinuity of this series. But it’s probably because Netflix (Too Hot To Handle) is certain that this series will have its perfect story line and ending in only 20 episodes.
But everything is possible. Who knows that in the near future Netflix (Alice in Borderland) changes its mind, given the huge fans of The Rain and how high the demand is for this series to move forward.
The End of Season 3
Even if there’s no The Rain season 4, Netflix (Country Comfort) makes sure that the fans are satisfied with the ending of the season three.
In the season three, it is mostly about the main characters Simone Andersen (Alba August) and her brother Rasmus (Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen). Only this time, the two siblings who have been hiding from the rain and taking care for each other for six years in the bunker, have to face an emotional roller-coaster. It all leads to the death of Rasmus.
It’s shocking and heartbreaking of course. It means that Simone has lost her entire family. But there’s always a silver lining. No matter how difficult and hurtful her life has always been, she finally has the cure for the deadly virus. It means that the world can come back to the way it used to be.
It feels like Netflix (Now You See Me) is playing safe. This can be a proper ending for the series, but it still can be extended to a new story as well—in case they decided to continue it.
And so, fans begin to come up with the theories and plot about how The Rain season 4 is going to roll out. Many of the ideas are very interesting that it might become reality (finger-crossed).
You can watch the season 3 here in Netflix.
How the Story Would be if there Was Season 4
With the death of most of the main characters and the cure for the virus in Simone’s hands, seems like the most logical theory will be Simone that is trying to rebuild the world from the chaos. Simone will still be played by Alba August.
Besides the main characters Simone and Rasmus, there are recurring cast as well, such as Martin, Jean, Patrick, and Sten, which were played by Mikkel Følsgaard, Sonny Lindberg, Lukas Løkken, and Johannes Bah Kuhnke.
The Rain season 4 would portray Simone in a heroic way, trying to save the world. It’s not something new, since Simone has showed us her leadership trait since the season one. Since the chaos began, she had to take care of her brother, so it builds some trust to her among the viewers.
Losing people that she loves while trying to rebuild a new world is not an easy thing to do. So expect that there will be some emotional moments of her.
Anyway, Netflix (Ragnarok) has confirmed that they will not continue The Rain season 4, and they rarely changed their mind. It will be great for this series to return, but the ending of the season three has completed the whole story, and for what it’s worth, there’s nothing to lose even if there will never be a new season.
