South Korea is getting more and more standout in their movies and series on Netflix. After Squid Game and Hellbound, now people are looking forward to see the second installment of the science fiction TV series, The Silent Sea season 2.
Adapted from a short movie in 2014 with the title The Sea of Tranquility, the series premiered on December 24, 2021, on Netflix. The writer and the director of the original short movie, Choi Hang-yong, also directed the TV series, which written by Park Eun-kyo.
Called Goyo-eui bada in Korean, this science fiction mystery thriller TV show from South Korea consists of eight episodes, with the duration of around 39 to 51 minutes each episode.
The Silent Sea set in dystopian future and follows the story of a team that consists of scientists, doctor, astronauts, and others, who have a mission to go to the moon in order to save the Earth from devastation since there is no longer water on Earth.
Because of the story, the famous cast, and brilliant CGI, this TV show receives positive responses among critics and audiences. IMDB gives the show 6.9 out of 10 scores, while Rotten Tomatoes gives it 88% critics’ review and 70% audience score.
Released on Christmas Eve, The Silent Sea left the audiences with a massive cliffhanger. No wonder, its fans and audiences can’t help but looking forward to see The Silent Sea season 2. But when will it be released? What the story will be about? Here is what we know so far.
When Will The Silent Sea Season 2 be Released?
Although there is no exact release date for The Silent Sea season 2 or an official statement regarding the renewal, it is most likely that there will be The Silent Sea season 2—and its announcement is just a matter of time. In the meantime, Netflix may take its time to assess its rating and viewership.
And if The Silent Sea season 2 gets a green light, we can expect to see it in early 2023 at the earliest. It probably will consist of the same amount of episodes as the first season as well as the duration. Besides, just like typical series on Netflix (Ginny and Georgia Season 2), all of the episodes will be out at once on the release date, so that the audiences can comfortably binge-watch the show.

The first season of The Silent Sea ends with a huge cliffhanger, and The Silent Sea season 2 might as well pick up from where it left off.
At the end of the first season, we can see that lunar water bursts out of the station, and only Luna, Doctor Hong, and Dr. Song who are safe. Captain Han is presumably dead, although he has been rescued by Luna. Captain Han and Dr. Song have mission to save Luna and the sample, whatever it takes, in order to save the Earth.
So, The Silent Sea season 2 possibly will talk about how the survivors should go back to Earth as well as bring Luna safely from people who want to take advantage of her.
The second installment can also address the worse environmental issues on Earth and how Lunar water can help.
With the assistance of Dr. Song, Luna can learn more about the purpose of her existence, as their bond grows.
The bottom line is, The Silent Sea season 2 probably will focus on Luna, her powers, her purpose, and how she and Dr. Song try to save the Earth.
The Silent Sea Season 2: Who Will Return?
Some of the lead roles from the first season might return in The Silent Sea season 2. That includes Luna (Kim Shi-Ah), Dr. Song (Bae Doo-Na), and Dr. Hong (Kim Sun-Young).
Unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to Captain Han (Gong Yoo), except in flashback scenes. However, it seems like there will be new faces and new characters as the story develops.
