The Tourist is set to bring mystery and intrigue to BBC1 and HBO Max and some intriguing new photos have been released for the upcoming drama.
Created and written by award-winning brothers Harry and Jack Williams, whose previous credits include Liar, The Missing and Baptiste, the series shows Jamie Dornan as a mysterious character known as “The Man,” who faces grave danger as he searches for his identity in the Australian outback.

The Tourist Release Date
The official date for this series has been officially announced. it will start broadcasting on January 1, 2022. This series will also have 6 episodes with an average of 1 episode of 60 minutes.
The series will premiere on BBC1 in the UK on Saturday 1 January 2022 before airing on BBC iPlayer. It will also premiere on HBO Max in the US over the coming months.
The Tourist Official Synopsis
In the glowing red heart of the Australian outback, a British man is pursued by a vast tank truck trying to drive him off the road. An epic cat and mouse chase unfolds and The Man later wakes in hospital, hurt, but somehow alive. Except he has no idea who he is. With merciless figures from his past pursuing him, The Man’s search for answers propels him through the vast and unforgiving outback.
The Tourist Plot
The twist-laden, action-packed and dark comic drama follows The Man, an Englishman, who ends up in Down Under and finds himself chased by a large truck trying to drive him off the road.
After an astonishing chase, The Man awakens some time later in the hospital but does not know his name or identity. But when people from his past come back to haunt him, he faces a race against time to get to the truth about who he was and who he is now before he is discovered by those who want to silence him forever…
“The Tourist has some of the most interesting scripts I’ve ever read,” said Dornan, best known for the films The Fall and Fifty Shades of Grey.
“We are very happy with this show. This is completely groundbreaking for us, and having Jamie Dornan on board is the icing on the Australian cake,” the Williams brothers added.
The Tourist Cast
The show also stars Danielle Macdonald as the rookie probationary cop Helen Chambers.
“Helen is a charming and engaging character, I fell in love with her on the first page,” said Macdonald. “I ended up reading all the episodes in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down! I’m so excited to be a part of this amazing project and I can’t wait to start shooting with the amazing cast and production team.”
Shalom Brune-Franklin ( Line of Duty , Roadkill ) is Luci’s mysterious servant who crosses paths with The Man.
“This story is unique and I am delighted to be a part of bringing it to life with this brilliant team,” said Brune-Franklin. “I’m looking forward to adding to the thrilling mystery of this script with a very interesting character. Luci. It’s great to be working on such a great project in Australia — it would be a lot of fun.”
Apart from them, Damon Herriman ( Mindhunter , Justified ) plays quirky DI cop Lachlan Rogers replacing Hugo Weaving who had to leave production due to scheduling issues. lafur Darri Lafsson ( Stuck, The Lost ) also appears as Billy Nixon, an American involved in the case, and Alex Dimitriades ( The End, The Cry ) is Costa Panigiris, a wealthy but shady businessman.

Yes! This action-packed teaser features explosions, helicopters, and weapons. It begins with The Man driving along in Outback singing to the radio before a truck shocks him. As he then sat down sipping beer he pondered, “Why would someone want me dead?” We then catch a glimpse of some of the other characters including Helen and Luci looking anxious before we see The Man lying in a hospital bed suffering from amnesia and the ominous words What He Didn’t Know Could Kill Him splashed across the screen.
