Vampire Knight is a supernatural romance anime which was first released on April 8 to July 1, 2008. Only three months after that, the second season got released, this time called Vampire Knight: Guilty. The second season aired from October 7 to December 30, 2008. Both seasons consist of 13 episodes. It also came with a special episode in November of the same year, titled Vampire Knight Special.
The anime was originally adapted from a shoujo manga series with the same title. It was written and illustrated by Matsuri Hino, and was serialized by a monthly Japanese shoujo manga magazine called LaLa. It started its publication on November 24, 2004 and finished almost 9 years later on May 24, 2013. Later the same year, Matsuri Hino released another manga titled Vampire Knight: Memories, this time serialized under LaLa DX. It is a non-linear story which tells the events from the time the original manga ended until a thousand year in the future.
The story has also been adapted into 3 light novels. The first one is called Vampire Knight: Ice Blue Sin and was released in April, 2008. The second one is called Vampire Knight: The Noir Trap and was released in October of the same year. The last one was released in November, 2013 and is titled Vampire Knight: Fleeting Dreams. All three light novels are written by Ayuna Fujisaki and illustrated by Matsuri Hino.
The entire series was adapted into anime by Studio Deen. The same production studio also adapted other famous series, such as the KonoSuba series and the original run of the famous horror anime, the Higurashi series. Vampire Knight is licensed under VIZ Media. The question on everybody’s mind is: will we ever get Vampire Knight Season 3?
The Release Date of Vampire Knight Season 3
Despite the quick succession between the first and the second season of Vampire Knight, the anime did not continue and we did not get Vampire Knight Season 3. This is likely because the series got adapted into anime whilst the manga is still serializing. Season 2 was released in late 2008, whilst the manga did not conclude until 2013. The studio ran out of material in the middle of production and decided to only adapt 2 seasons.
Fans have been waiting for almost 13 years now since the first 2 seasons finished airing. Whilst it has now been over 8 years since the manga is finished, there still has been no news from Studio Deen about any possibility of making Vampire Knight Season 3. Therefore, fans can only hope for now that one day they will get another season of the dark fantasy anime.
The Plot of Vampire Knight
The story is focused mainly on our three main characters, Yuuki Cross, Zero Kiryuu, and Kaname Kuran. It is set in a boarding school called Cross Academy, where there are two separate types of class, the Day Class and the Night Class. At twilight, the students from the Day Class returns to their dorm, whilst the students from the Night Class head out to their class.
Yuuki and Zero act as prefects of the academy. This is necessary due to the academy’s secret, the fact that although the Night Class students look like gorgeous elites on the surface, the truth is that they are actually vampires. Therefore, they must not only protect the safety of the Day Class students from the Night Class students, but also their secrets. They are also helped by Kaname Kuran, the leader of the Night Class, who helps keep the other students in check with the power of his status as a pureblood vampire.
