Launched in the middle of the season, the new show signed by NBC (This Is Us, Manifest) and broadcast exclusively on Altice Studio intends to stand in comparison with 24 Hours Chrono and Homeland. Espionage, betrayal, action and twists, this is the program that was offered to Americans from February 25, 2019. And the pilot managed to arouse the curiosity of quite a few people, curious to find the actress who became world-famous after playing Dexter’s little sister in the series (Blood & Treasure, Tuca & Bertie) of the same name. They were indeed no less than 5.76 million Americans in front of their television set to discover the character of Erica Shepherd.
Erica Shepherd, a personality much more complex than the go-getter Jack Bauer. A twist that brought together a large part of the audience, who found themselves at 5.32 million viewers the following week. A slight drop that is quite logical after the launch of a new series, and that will continue to be observed over the episodes, before finding its cruising speed, ending with an average more than honorable of 4.4 million viewers. This made it one of the 10 most-watched series of the NBC network this year.
Will There Be A The Enemy Within Season 2
First, it’s worth mentioning that The Enemy Within Season 1 has received mainly mixed reviews from critics. Though such indicator as critical response could affect the decision on renewal, a network is mostly relying on another key factor, such as a reception from the viewers. In case of The Enemy Within, the viewers were fully satisfied while watching the debut season of the show.
On Rotten Tomatoes, The Enemy Within Season 1 holds a score of 5.30/10 and a 43% approval rating from critics, while the viewers have rated the 1st season of the drama series at 4/5, as well as have given a 81% approval rating. On Metacritic, the critics’ consensus was ambivalent, with a score of 55 out of 100. At the same time, an overall score of The Enemy Within on IMDb is above average, 7.1/10 based on over 6.1k votes (as of today).
According to the Business Times, the series seemed to be making a name for itself on social networks, after perhaps missing its initial broadcast. With a good buzz and satisfactory ratings, everything seemed to go in the direction of an extension for a second season of The Enemy Within and the last episode was also ended on a cliffhanger.
That will never be solved. At the end of May, a few days after the end of the broadcast of the first season and a breathtaking finale, NBC (‘The Blacklist, The InBetween‘) announced that the series was canceled and will therefore The Enemy Within never reveal all its secrets… Too bad.
