A Quiet Place 3 is officially back! This is not too surprising after the success of A Quiet Place Part II at the US box office. The sequel debuted with $58 million, marking a post-pandemic record in the US and, more impressively, gaining the same amount of money one would expect if it opened in a ‘normal’ situation in March 2020.
Given its success, fans are clamoring for a third film and luckily, John Krasinski already has a plan. It’s easy to see how the events of a sequel could lead to a follow-up and according to Emily Blunt, Krasinski had “the whole idea” for a third film.
In November 2020, Paramount confirmed a new film set in the world of A Quiet Place. It is based on an original idea by Krasinski but will be written and directed by Jeff Nichols and is set to be a spin-off rather than a direct sequel to Part II.
Here’s everything we know about A Quiet Place 3.
A Quiet Place 3: Potential Release Date
A Quiet Place Part III has been confirmed to have a 2025 release date, so that’s still a long way from now.
This timing makes sense given that the spinoff is targeting a 2023 release date, providing a gap of two years between the two which fits the formula that has worked so far for A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II.
Specific details hasn’t been confirmed yet, but after that we’ll be sure to update it, so bookmark this page!
A Quiet Place 3 Plot: What is A Quite Place 3 About?
As we mentioned above, Part II leaves the story wide open for sequels. Here’s how:
The main plot of the sequel revolves around Regan’s quest to track down a mysterious radio signal they hear when they arrive at Emmett’s bunker, with the signal playing ‘Beyond the Sea’ in a loop. Regan wants to use the signal to broadcast feedback from her hearing aid that aliens are also vulnerable so, against Evelyn’s wishes, she heads out into the world to go to the island where the signal came from.
Emmett leaves with her and they get into an altercation with the other survivors at the dock, which Emmett ends by making noises to attract the aliens to attack them as he dives to safety with Regan.
They walk to the island and find that it is a safe place for humans because aliens cannot swim. The National Guard learned about it in the early days of the apocalypse and tried to get as many people safely to the island as possible, but only two ships made it.
The survivors have lived safely since then and are sending out radio signals in hopes that others will succeed.
In classic horror movie mode, one of the aliens makes their way to Regan and Emmett’s ship and chaos ensues. Djimon Hounsou’s character (whose name is Man on Island) helps pull the alien away and brings Regan and Emmett to the radio station.
He was killed before he could do anything else, but Regan eventually switched the radio signal from ‘Beyond the Sea’ to the feedback from her hearing aid.
She kills the aliens, and the signal comes just in time to save her entire family. Emmett’s bunker was attacked by aliens, which Marcus (Noah Jupe) kills to save himself, Evelyn and the baby.
The final shot is the speaker at the radio station playing feedback from Regan’s hearing aid.
It is unclear how far the signal could go as it is mentioned in the film that the Abbotts did not hear it at their home due to its location. However, a third film will likely pick up on this thread as the humans fight back.
Of course, it probably needs some explanation as we imagine most people would turn off the radio if they heard the feedback.
Krasinski revealed in March 2020 ahead of the sequel’s planned release that he had already started preparing for a third film.
“This time, I think as my brain starts to wonder [about questions like], ‘What does this mean then?’ I started writing notes just in case I could prepare myself for the third one,” he said.
In a separate interview, he added that there may be a third film in the sequel for fans to discover, such as the fire in the first film leading to the location in A Quiet Place Part II:
“We even went so far as to include some Easter eggs, so that if I did a third, they would connect to the second.”
As mentioned, there’s a new film in the works based on Krasinski’s ideas that could expand the world of A Quiet Place by following a different survivor or it could be a direct continuation to Part II.
A Quiet Place 3 Cast: Who’s In It?
Despite a few close calls, the Abbotts have all survived the events of A Quiet Place Part II, so expect the return of Emily Blunt as Evelyn, Millicent Simmonds as Regan and Noah Jupe as Marcus.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Simmonds said he was “absolutely” ready for a third film or even an appearance in a spin-off film: “It would be an honor. I would love to jump back into this world.”
The biggest newcomer in the sequel is Cillian Murphy’s Emmett who is revealed to have known the Abbott family before the apocalypse. He developed a fatherly bond with Regan in the sequel and helped him fight the aliens, so we hope he returns.
While we didn’t see Man On Island Djimon Hounsou die, he was attacked quite viciously and since he didn’t even get a name, we don’t know if he’ll be back or not.
One return you can’t rule out though is another appearance from John Krasinski as Lee Abbott. He was seen in the stunning sequel on Day One of the apocalypse, and similar flashbacks can be seen in the sequel.
The Abbotts may appear in the spin-off film as well but it could follow an entirely new cast, as previously mentioned.
A Quiet Place 3 Trailer
Unfortunately, there’s no confirmation from Paramount as to when the official trailer will be released, so it hasn’t been shot yet and we won’t be getting any footage for a while, sadly.
