After a lengthy search to find the star of Bat-girl (the film has been in development since 2017), DC and Warner Bros. decided on Leslie Grace. The actress of the musical where she comes from (In the Heights) will play Barbara Gordon in the film in preparation for the HBO Max (‘Black Superman, Swamp Thing‘) platform.
At the moment, it is not known if the film is directly related to the film. Matt Reeves Bat Man, but if so, that would make her Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon played by Jeffrey Wright.
Grace also shared the news on Twitter,
Batgirl has been around since the 1960s, and the most famous version of it is Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham Police Commissioner Jim Gordon. Batgirl was originally introduced in 1961 as Betty Kane, but Gordon’s version came in 1967 when the character was renewed for the television series Batman. Yvonne Craig began playing the role in the third season of the series directed by Adam West.
Alicia Silverstone starred in Joel Schumacher’s Batman and Robin, and Rosario Dawson voiced the character in the original Lego Batman film. The HBO series Max Titans will feature its own Barbara Gordon in Season 3. The Gotham series also had its version of Barbara but it wasn’t exactly the same, it was Barbara Kean. However, by the end of the series, Gordon and Kean’s daughter is clearly the future Batgirl.
As previously announced, the director duo of Lifelong Bad Boys Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are attached to the film Bat-girl. Screenwriter Christina Hodson (Bumblebee, Birds of Prey, Flash) is writing the film, which is scheduled for release on HBO Max.
