Netflix has consistently featured great South Korean content, but its latest original drama, DP, is probably one of the most popular releases. K-drama fans will be pleased to know that DP has been renewed for a second season on Netflix. Below we’ll track down everything you need to know about DP season 2.
DP is a South Korean Original Netflix crime drama series directed by Han Jun Hee based on the webtoon DP Dog Day by Kim Bo Tong. A contributing factor to why the series was so well received was Kim Bo Tong’s involvement in the series as a co-screenwriter.
DP Season 2: Renewed Status
After waiting a few months Netflix Korea made the announcement on Twitter that DP will be back for a second season on Netflix!
DP performed very well on Netflix (The Ranch Season 9) outside of Europe and North America, spending several weeks in the top ten in Asian countries. Most notably, the series spent 8 weeks in the top ten in South Korea for a total of 52 days.
According to critics and subscribers, the series also performed very well, earning a respectable rating of 8.8 on IMDb, and 8.8 on MyDramaList.
While the series is struggling to make an impact outside of Asia, it’s great to see Netflix make a commitment to South Korean content.
DP Sesaon 2: What To Expect?
The second season of DP will discuss the impact of the devastating consequences at the end of season 1.
After being bullied endlessly, Suk Bong snaps and takes Hwang Jang-Soo hostage with the aim of killing him. It was thanks to Detective Na that Suk Bong stopped trying to kill Hwang, but Jun-Ho had to stop him from beating up the defectors to death.
In a quick turn of events, Suk Bong is able to get hold of Detective Han’s gun and chases after Hwang to finish what he started. Han pleads for Suk Bong to step down, offering a full-scale investigation into the allegations against Hwang and his unit.
Despite Han and Jun-Ho’s intervention, armed guards from the military police appear and surround Suk-Bong. Left with little choice in his mind, Suk Bong shoots himself in the head but fires to his neck and not his head, leaving him bleeding in pain, helplessly calling for his mother.
After the incident with Suk Bong, Jun-Oh took drastic measures and walked away from the commander and his unit. Despite 500+ days of military service remaining, Jun-Oh decides to run away.
Where will Jun-Oh run to?
Despite being estranged from his mother, the first place for Jun-Oh to escape to was his mother’s. But considering how the military police found out his mother’s address, it wouldn’t be long before they find Jun-Oh.
Given his brief experience working as a DP soldier, Jun-Oh needs to use his experience and the experience of those who ran away to avoid capture.
The Impact of Suk Bong’s Death
The culture of bullying and harassment within the South Korean military ultimately led to the death of Suk Bong and various other military personnel.
Detective Han promises a full investigation into the military police unit where Suk Bong was assigned. If Han keeps his word, the resulting investigation will likely uncover a long and unhealthy past of bullying.
However, the investigation had to take place despite the cries of intimidated soldiers, using his machine gun to kill all the men in his room. Yet there were more victims of the persistent culture of bullying.
