Will there be Terra Formars Season 3? Will the anime series ever return?
Terra Formas is an anime series that falls under the action, drama, horror, and Sci-Fi genre. The series follows the story of The Annex I team, a team consisting of hundreds of men and women with a strong and enhanced physique, who was sent to Mars to find the cause behind the virus disease that has surged the earth, threatening humans’ existence.
The anime series Terra Formas is an adaptation based on a manga of the same title written by Yu Sasuga with illustrations by Kenichi Tachibana. The manga series was initially serialized in Shueisha’s Miracle Jump magazine from January 13 to December 13, 2011. It was later switched to Weekly Young Jump starting on April 26, 2012, after the Bugs 2 arc concluded. The manga series not only comes in Japanese but also in English by VIZ Media under their VIZ Signature imprint since July 15, 2014; in Spanish by Ivrea since December 2013; in Brazil by Jbc since July 2015.
The first season and both of the ova episodes of the anime adaptation are produced by LIDENFILMS, and TYO Animations came to join the party in animating the second season. LIDENFILMS is the studio best known for its popular anime releases such as Tokyo Revengers, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, and Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor, while TYO Animations is well-known for its shoujo anime release called Wolf Girl & Black Prince.
Will there ever be Terra Formars Season 3?
The anime series Terra Formars was first released as an ova series on Aug 19, 2014, consisting of two episodes, in which it adapted the Bugs 2 arc of the manga. A television anime series was later aired on Sep 27, 2014, and ran for 13 episodes before concluding on December 20 of the same year.
It was followed by the release of a sequel called Terra Formars: Revenge on Apr 2, 2016, which also ran for 13 episodes before it came to an end on Jun 25, 2016. Another two episodes of the ova series were later launched on August 17, 2018, which was said to adapt the Earth arc of the manga.
After the second ova series finished airing, many of the fans who fell in love with the series are craving a sequel. So, will there ever be Terra Formars Season 3? Will the anime series ever return?
As of now, we haven’t received any words from the author or the studio regarding Terra Formars Season 3. We don’t know whether the anime series will be renewed or canceled. However, it is safe to assume that Terra Formars Season 3 might not be possible.
Why there won’t be Terra Formars Season 3?
The main reason is that the second season of Terra Formars was a big disappointment to the fans. Many of them were left unsatisfied with the adaptation. The animation was way worse than the previous season, and the violence, blood, gore, and epic fight scenes that were highlighted in the first season were not present in the second season.
Not only that, the studio did a bad job in adapting the second season as it was oddly out of order and went all over the place, and it would be hard for the studio to continue the anime series. As a result, the second season received a non-favorable score of 6.69 in MyAnimeList, and it would most likely impact the sales of the show as well.
Although in terms of source material, the studio will have more than enough of them to make a season renewal. The anime series as of now has only covered the first eleven out of twenty-two volumes of the manga. However, the manga went on hiatus after the release of the 22nd volume, but luckily, the illustrator of the manga confirmed in his tweets that he will be continuing the manga series as soon as the writer’s health improves.
Terra Formars Action
During the 21st century, humanity attempted to colonize Mars by sending two species that could endure the harsh environment of the planet to terraform it—algae and cockroaches. However, they did not anticipate the species’ remarkable ability to adapt. Now in the 26th century, a lethal disease known as the Alien Engine Virus has arrived on Earth, and the cure is suspected to be found only on Mars. The problem is, Mars in the present is overrun by creatures known as “Terraformars,” incredibly powerful and intelligent humanoid cockroaches that mutated from those originally sent to the planet.
The Annex I team, consisting of a hundred men and women genetically enhanced with characteristics of powerful organisms from earth, has been sent to Mars on a mission to find the cause of the Alien Engine Virus and to help cure humanity—signaling the start of the crew’s fight for survival.
