Netflix recently released a 10-episode comedy series, The Crew, in February 2021. The Crew is the latest show in a multi-camera sitcom led by Kevin James. However, The Crew has not been well received in terms of reviews. Therefore, fans are still curious about the possibility of The Crew Season 2.
Starring Kevin James, the 10-episode comedy series takes place in Charlotte, NC, and follows the story of a fictional NASCAR racing team. The Crew season 1 hasn’t had any spectacular reviews so far, but the situational humor could make it popular with Netflix (AJ and The Queen) subscribers.
In The Crew season 1, Catherine Spencer (Jillian Mueller) takes over as CEO of Bobby Spencer Racing. The businesswoman’s Stanford background and Silicon Valley experience would benefit the company’s finances, but the decision she made as soon as she took over did not please crew chief Kevin Gibson (James). Instead of sticking with regular racer Jake Martin (Freddie Stroma), Catherine plans to replace him with Jessie De La Cruz (Paris Berelc). she also changes the dynamics of the day-to-day office and awkwardly tries to pretend she’s part of a gang and not a stoic businesswoman who cares mostly about profit.
Final Crew season 1 introduced several conflicts including an unexpected romance between the two main characters. However, the biggest question is whether Kevin will prioritize his happiness after realizing that he might fall in love with an old friend.
The Crew Season 1 Overview
The main plot of the story begins when Bobby Spencer the garage owner retires and his daughter Catherine takes over the business. As the new boss, Catherine uses her age and training to revolutionize the way business is done. Catherine’s education at Stanford in business and experience in Silicon Valley is something she believes can really improve the company’s finances. As a result, her vision and ambitions for business led her to implement several new and immediate decisions which unfortunately did not sit well with The Crew chief, Kevin Gibson.
One of the big decisions Catherine made, which caused discomfort among the staff, was to plan to replace their old driver Jake with Jessie De La Cruz. In addition, she changes the day-to-day office dynamics of the workplace while trying, very awkwardly, to fit in with the gang. It’s almost as if her whole motive is to make his staff believe she is one of them and not just a boss who only cares about taking care of the business.
Aside from the cliché humor, which some have also called out of date, The Crew Season 1 ends after introducing several conflicts and a surprising romantic turn of events between the two main characters. As for The Crew Season 2 Kevin might act on the realization that he fell in love with one of his closest friends.
The Crew Season 2: Release Date
The race comes to an end for Kevin and his garage team. Since Netflix has canceled The Crew, there will be no second season for this multi-camera comedy series.
Created by showrunner Jeff Lowell and directed by Andy Fickman, The Crew stars Kevin James, Jillian Mueller, Freddie Stroma, Gary Anthony Williams, Dan Ahdoot, and Sarah Stiles. In the comedy, crew chief Kevin Gibson (James) runs a NASCAR garage. When the owner resigns and hands the team over to his Stanford-educated daughter, Catherine Spencer (Mueller), Kevin finds himself at odds with the tech-dependent millennials he’s brought in to modernize the team.
The series launched in February this year with 10 half-hour episodes. There won’t be a second season for The Crew, but Netflix (Hilda) has reportedly struck a deal with James to develop a single-camera comedy series that he will star in and produce.
The Crew Season 2: What to Expect?
If The Crew still has the opportunity to present a second season, the story will continue more or less like how Season 1 of The Crew ended on a teasing note. The last part teases the two romantic angles between the main characters. We can expect season 2 of The Crew pick up the story from there. At the end of season 1, we find Catherine and Jake sharing a moment of passion. Catherine, in a moment of vulnerability, opens up to him and after bickering with each other, the two kiss. From there, season 2 of The Crew could show them being a little awkward around each other or as seen by the rest of the gang. As for Kevin, at the end of the season he finally realized his feelings for Beth who was getting married and moving to New York. Even though Kevin could never muster up the courage to express his feelings for Beth, he mumbled “I love you” to himself after saying goodbye to her. This leaves the odds for season 2. It looks like season 2 of The Crew will involve Catherine and Kevin handling their personal lives, which could also get entangled between their work and professionality.
As for the cast, most of the original cast can be expected to return for The Crew Season 2. However, Beth could be out in New York (although we don’t see that last long now that we know the role). Aside from them, Bruce McGill could return as Bobby Spencer. Berelc will also return as Jessie De La Cruz. In addition, The Crew Season 2 is expected to introduce new and side characters.
