The Shannara Chronicles is a fantasy series based on author Terry Brooks’ The Sword Of Shannara Trilogy that takes place in the distant future. The Shannara Chronicles season 1 was produced by Jon Favreau and roughly adapts the story of Brooks’ The Elfstones of Shannara. The series follows a group of characters who must protect Ellcrys from death, which is an ancient tree that keeps expelled demons locked up. If the tree dies, it will plunge the world into chaos.
Unlike the violence and bloodshed seen in Game Of Thrones, The Shannara Chronicles is a lighter, more user-friendly fantasy series. That’s not to say it doesn’t feature its fair share of shocking deaths. The show also embraces its fantasy roots, featuring magic, elves, witches, and all the nerdy embellishments. The Shannara Chronicles season 1 was a huge hit for MTV, but after the network quit making the scripted series, season 2 moved to Spike TV (now Paramount Network) and its fortunes took a turn for the worst.

What The Shannara Chronicles Series About?
The story of the show follows four mystical lands where the Ellonans guard an ancient magical tree. The tree has many supernatural abilities that resists demons. If the demons are free, they will kill Will and destroy the Earth. The main villain of the drama is the peacock Dagda. With the fall of the Elekris leaves, Dagda’s power will increase. Due to the chain of events, the tree’s leaves began to fall and the demons were released.
The series is set in the Elfstones of Shannara, which has four mythical lands. After being banished to this world, the demons returned to a place called Forbidding. The place is also covered by an ancient tree called Elekris. The series shows the journey of Amberley, Eretria, and Will. Under the previous guidance of Druid Allen, the three of them were set out to keep the tree safe. Together they released the Devils into four different lands to protect the ancient tree.
The Shannara Chronicles Season 3: Release Date
Despite attracting a large following, The Shannara Chronicles season 3 has been cancelled. The first season of Shannara Chronicles was released on MTV and became popular due to its great world-building and production. Due to the success of the first season, the series continued on to a second season. But unlike season one, Shannara Chronicles season 2 was not well received. Season 2 of The Shannara Chronicles was released in 2017 on Paramount Network.
Shannara Chronicles season 2 received low ratings. At that time, the show was broadcasted on more than one channel, receiving fewer viewers and the creators running short on budget. Because of that, Paramount Network has canceled The Shannara Chronicles season 3.
The Shannara Chronicles Season 3: Could It Still Happen?
The show’s studio Solar Entertainment is hoping to sell The Shannara Chronicles season 3 to a different network, with some fans hoping Netflix – the platform that streams the series – will pick up the production. Unfortunately, those efforts appeared to be in vain as the show is officially considered discontinued. It’s a shame The Shannara Chronicles came to an abrupt end after such a promising start, but given the amount of content in the franchise, it will no doubt receive film or TV reboots in the future.
