A Certain Scientific Railgun is a spin-off to the main series, A Certain Magical Index. It falls under the action and Sci-Fi genre and revolves around the superpower theme. The story of the series centers on Mikoto Misaka – an electricity manipulator, and her friends Kuroko Shirai, Ruiko Saten, Kazari Uiharu, as they got caught up in the matter of the “Level Upper” when they found out that the crimes that have been haunting the city have something to do with it.
A Certain Scientific Railgun began life as a manga series written by Kazuma Kamachi (the author of the main series) and illustrated by Motoi Fuyukawa. It is the first series that is based on the main series franchise. It has been published monthly in the Dengeki Daioh magazine since February 2007. As of now, the manga series has sixteen volumes in total.
A Certain Scientific Railgun was later adapted into an anime series, produced by the same studio that made the main series, J.C.Staff. The studio has an outstanding presence in the community as they have released several popular anime series that has taken the number one spot in each of the genres such as Toradora and The Pet Girl of Sakurasou – two of the most famous romance anime; One Punch Man – most known shounen anime; and Food Wars – top of the line gourmet anime.

The anime series A Certain Scientific Railgun comes with three main series, starting from the first season on Jan 10, 2020, the second season (A Certain Scientific Railgun S) on Apr 12, 2013, and the third season (A Certain Scientific Railgun T) on Jan 10, 2020. The studio has released several special and ova episodes along the way.
As the season progresses, it gets better and better in terms of score in MyAnimeList. The first, second, and third seasons have a score of 7.69, 8.04, and 8.21, respectively. After the third season has finished airing, many of the fans are craving a sequel. The main reason is that the source material is currently not sufficient enough to go for another run. The anime series in total has covered the first thirteen volumes of the manga, while the manga itself is currently sitting at the sixteenth volume. The manga is only slightly ahead of the anime, as the manga is just one arc ahead of the anime. That said, we would have to wait until the manga is way ahead of the anime, so that there will be enough source material for a season renewal.
A Certain Scientific Railgun Season 2: Expected Plot
The new Reformatory in Academy City is the stage for an event, the Jailbreak Trial. The challengers who are able to evade the state-of-the-art defense system and escape from the prison will receive a prize of one billion yen.
Mikoto decided to participate in this event together with Kuroko, Uiharu, and Saten, however, the defense system was quite troublesome. Moreover, various forces participate in the trial with their own motives.
The Jailbreak Trial, a gathering of participants from all over Academy City for the purpose of a huge sum of prize money, ended with Uiharu’s victory after she hacked the reformatory’s system and released the person playing the prisoner. However, there were those who used the turmoil to jailbreak the real prisoner. The party of four, which includes the former prisoner Shundan Kimi, uses Kimi’s ability to take control of the reformatory.
In addition, after the girls witnessed Uiharu’s ability as the winner of the game, they changed their focus and put her kidnapping into action.
