Good Girls is one of those comedy series that struggled to find its footing early on but managed to trajected itself back into popularity with fans asking for Good Girls Season 5. But now the question in everyone’s mind is this show by Jenna Bans will return to NBC? Or has the show stopped dead on its tracks?
Well, you don’t have to dig yourself into a macabre situation after bank robbery to figure out the answer to that question. We are here to tell you everything you need to know about Good Girls Season 5.
Will there be Good Girls Season 5?
Unfortunately, NBC (Manifest) has decided to not renew Good Girls for another season. Even though the show managed to bounce back after a rough pilot and first season, according to TVLine, the cancellation has nothing to do with the quality of the show. NBC (The Blacklist) confirmed that they were planning on a ‘Good Girls 5’ release date but, the financials didn’t work out for the fifth season.
Basically, it’s a way to say that Good Girls simply does not have ratings and audiences good enough to justify Good Girls Season 5 production, and NVC has decided to not forward with renewing it. Even though syndication through Netflix (Ozark) has brought international eyeballs to the show, it simply wasn’t enough to save the show from cancellation.
So unless Netflix decided to purchase Good Girls from NBC, which already has slim chance of happening, the show has stopped on it’s track perhaps for the good this time.
But don’t lose hope just yet! The producers have repeatedly said that they planned to do a season 5 for the show. Even though the scheduled season was supposed to be smaller and work in closing up the narrative, the producers were planning to give closure to the show.
NBC/Universal has also offered Netflix to take the helm moving forward but it looks like the streaming giant isn’t interested in taking the offer. However, the actresses have been behind the show all the way. As with ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, the show might be able to get enough steam for Good Girls Season 5 details that it makes Netflix take up the project.
As far as the actresses go, Hendricks posted a meme on Instagram about how she could not believe the news about the cancellation. So, there is hope for a possible ‘Good Girls 5’ release date yet. If the actresses rally together with the writers and producers for the show, it will help make a case for the show. Just like ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, it might be picked up in the future.
But that’s just one reason. Long time fans of the show might also notice that there has been some behind the scene drama amongst the cast that might caused the show to be cancelled. The fans have seen Beth and Rio sizzle on the screen. But the real-life equation between actors Hendricks and Montana might not be quite smooth. The two have been rumoured to have a strained relationship off-screen and refer to words such as professional or business-like while describing their dynamic. However, the stars have not directly commented on the same.
Other cast members were not happy that their show was axed. Mae Whitman and Christina Hendricks even took to social media to express their disappointment. Hendricks thanked the fans for their love and support, while Whitman admitted that she was heartbroken.
Some people have even started a petition to both Netflix and NBC (Songland) to bring back the show, which has already received an overwhelming response. Who knows if the fans make enough noise, Netflix might just change its mind and save the show and Good Girls Season 5 gets renewed and join the ranks of other picked up shows like You!
