Moriarty the Patriot, also known as Yuukoku no Moriarty, is a mystery anime that is based on the famous “Sherlock Holmes” novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. There are 2 seasons of the anime. The first one was released late last year from October 11 until December 20, 2020, with a total of 11 episodes. Whilst the second season was released earlier this year on April 4 until June 27, with a total of 13 episodes. Although it has only been a few months, fans are already eagerly waiting for Moriarty the Patriot Season 3.
The animation is done by Production I.G, the same studio that is best well-known for their works on sports anime series such as Haikyuu!! and Kuroko’s Basketball. The series is directed by Kazuya Nomura, who also directed Joker Game. Moriarty the Patriot is licensed by Funimation.
The series is adapted from a manga of the same name which is written by Hikaru Miyoshi and illustrated by Ryousuke Takeuchi. It began its publication on August 4, 2016 in Shueisha’s Jump SQ and is currently still ongoing. Currently, there’s a total of 15 published volumes, with the 16th scheduled to be published on December 3, 2021.
Yousuke Saita wrote 3 light novels that are based off the manga, which was released by Shueisha JUMP j BOOKS. There was also a 2 stage musical play based on the manga that ran in Japan between 2019 and 2020.
The Release Date of Moriarty the Patriot Season 3
There is currently no news from Production I.G regarding the production of Moriarty the Patriot Season 3. So far, the anime has adapted the manga until chapter 56, which is the last chapter of volume 14. Considering that currently there are only 15 published volumes, fans would have to wait longer to get Moriarty the Patriot Season 3.
However, an OVA is currently in production. There will be a 2-episode OVA that is titled Yuukoku no Moriarty OVA. It is scheduled to be streamed on March 5, 2022 at a special event for anime series at Nakano Sun Plaza in Tokyo. The OVA will reportedly tell an anime original story.
The Plot of Moriarty the Patriot
The story is set in the late 19th century, when the British Empire has become the greatest empire in the world. In this time, the nation has a strict economic hierarchy, which causes the working class to be unable to climb up the ranks, whilst the nobility rules over them. The nation’s system highly favors the aristocrats and determines the value of one’s life solely based on their ranks and wealth.
This led to the three brothers of the Moriarty household, William James, Louis James, and Albert, to band together and try to destroy the corrupt class system in Britain. This is achieved through William, who works as a “crime consultant” for the average citizens to help them with their problems, whilst he slowly destroys and exposes the current structure.
