DreamWorks Animation (How to Train Your Dragon) has announced Shrek 5 back in 2016, but where is it now?
The last movie, Shrek Forever After has been released 11 years ago, and Shrek 5 is long overdue.
Shrek was premiered in 2001, the sequel Shrek 2 follows in 2004. Three years later, Shrek the Third was released in 2007, and Shrek Forever After in 2010.
Shrek is a story of a brave giant green Ogre who together with his annoying donkey friend, called Donkey, save Princess Fiona. The comedy as well as a hint of romance, makes Shrek is loved by kids and also all ages.
No wonder, according to IMDB, the first movie of Shrek has won 40 awards, including Oscar’s Best Animated Feature, and nominated in 60 awards.
Actually, in 2004, the producer Jeffrey Katzenberg has revealed that Shrek is planned to be made into five movies, so Shrek 5 seems like something that is very possible.
But since the last movie Shrek Forever After, it’s been very quiet. But still, because of the high hope that the creators have given, fans are patiently waiting for more than a decade.
Ending of Shrek 4
Well, let’s look back at how the last movie, Shrek Forever After, ends.
In Shrek Forever After, Rumpelstiltskin claimed that he has deleted the day when Shrek was born, and therefore Shrek does not exist. The King and Queen then have to give the kingdom to Rumpelstiltskin. He said that when the day ends, Shrek will be gone.
So at the end of the day, in a very sad farewell between Shrek and Fiona, they kiss and Shrek disappear.
However, apparently the kiss works, because Fiona stays an Ogre, and it is back to reality. Shrek is having a birthday party for his triplets, Sparkle, Fergus, and Felicia.
Then, Shrek says that it wasn’t him who saved Fiona from the dragon’s keep. Instead, it was Fiona who actually saved him. And while holding the triplets, they kiss, and the end.
What a beautiful ending. But obviously, fans still need Shrek 5.
Will There be Shrek 5?
Yes, it has been confirmed that there will be Shrek 5. It is reported that the work even has started in 2016, and initially scheduled to be released in 2019. But with all the delays, the date is pushed back probably to the end of 2022.
Since this movie is said will be the last one in this franchise, maybe the creators want to make it as perfect as possible, and that’s why it takes a very long time to be made.
Shrek 5: The Plot
So after a very happy ending in Shrek 4, what else can happen in Shrek 5?
Well, although the official plot of Shrek 5 hasn’t been revealed, but it most likely will not continue the story of the previous movie. It is reported that there will be new theme and plot, as well as new twist.
There are rumors that Shrek 5 will no longer focus on Shrek and Fiona. Instead, it will tell us the story of their teenage kids who are very stubborn.
Also rumors said that Shrek and Donkey will have more adventures and even there will be modern gadgets like smartphones.
ScreenRant noted, the producer hinted that Shrek 5 will reveal the origin of Shrek, like how Shrek could end up living in the swamp.
Who will be in Shrek 5?
After 11 years since the last movie is released, who will be in Shrek 5? Will the original casts return?
There hasn’t been any details regarding this. But considering that in 2018 Cameron Diaz is retired from acting, it can be expected that Princess Fiona will have a new voice in Shrek 5.
But beside Princess Fiona, it is predicted that Mike Myers will return as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots.
Since there will be new main characters—like Shrek’s children—there will be new voices coming up as well.
