Premiered on January 7, 2018, on Showtime (Shameless), the drama TV series The Chi has released four seasons. The second season followed on April 7, 2019. The third season was out on June 21, 2020, while the fourth season was released on May 23, 2021. Each season consists of 10 episodes, with the duration around 46-58 minutes each episode.
This TV show follows the story of a community in a South Side Chicago, where there is an interconnection between a group of people. This show also portrays the police brutality that impacts the community.
Created by Lena Waithe, The Chi gains praises from critics and have a solid fan base as well, for its social criticism, and for its true depiction to what is going on in the rural community, as well as police repression.
Having the average of 4.2 million weekly viewers on its season 4 finale, IMDB gives the show 7.3 out of 10 scores, while Rotten Tomatoes gives it 63% average audience score. It is safe to say that The Chi is Showtime’s most-streamed TV series ever.
After released four seasons, fans are now wondering whether they will see The Chi season 5. Will it return or will it be canceled?
The Chi Season 5: Release Date
Fans should be excited to the good news, as it has been officially confirmed that there will be The Chi season 5. The announcement was made back on August 2, 2021.
The filming process is predicted to start in late 2021 until 2022. So we can expect to see The Chi season 5 around mid of 2022 or at the end of the year. In the meantime, fans apparently still need to be patient for quite some time.
What Will Happen in The Chi Season 5
So what is possibly going to happen in The Chi season 5?
In the fourth season, we can see that Emmett tries to move on from Tiffany after waiting for her to choose between him or Dante. Although Tiffany finally chooses him and says that she would commit to him, she then meets her client Rob after Jada’s party and kisses him. In the previous season, we also see that Keisha and Christian officially becomes a couple.
Trig gets the footage that shows Douda beats Marcus, and uses it as a tool to blackmail the mayor to leave the town. Meanwhile, it appears that Roselyn will be the acting mayor while he’s gone.
The Chi season 5 will pretty much will be the continuation from where it left off in the previous season.
Emmett will have to deal with Tiffany who flirts with Rob, Douda also has to face the tension between him and Trig. After a good test result and her last chemo, Jada has a new life opportunity as well. The Chi season 5 will also still picture how strong the community is, through thick and thin.

The cast of The Chi season 5 has been officially confirmed as well, and the main cast mostly will return.
They include Jacob Latimore as Emmett, Luke James as Trig, Curtiss Cook as Douda, and Michael V. Epps as Jake.
There will also be Alex Hibbert as Kevin, Shamon Brown Jr. as Papa, Birgundi Baker as Keisha, among others.
