Many Harry Potter fans then wondering why in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows part 2, Harry drop The Resurrection Stone in the woods, after Harry meets his late loved ones, and right before he goes face to face with Lord Voldemort.

What is The Resurrection Stone?
The Resurrection Stone is one of the three Deathly Hallows—the others are The Elder Wand and The Invisibility Cloak. The Deathly Hallows are given to the three brothers. The Resurrection Stone is given to the second brother, Cadmus Peverell. He—who is an arrogant man—wants to humiliate Death and wants to bring back the dead with the stone.
Cadmus uses it to bring back the girl that he loves and the one that he wanted to marry before her death. Unfortunately, after brings her back, he feels like there is a veil that separates them, and he knows that she suffers from being back to the world. Condemn the weakness of the stone, Cadmus kills himself to be together with the girl.
The stone then being formed into a ring and being the heirloom of the Peverell Family. It eventually comes to the possession of Marvolo Gaunt and then Tom Riddle. Tom Riddle aka Lord Voldemort then uses the ring as one of his Horcruxes.
Later, while trying to unite The Deathly Hallows—as well as wants to bring back his sister Ariana—Albus Dumbledore puts the ring on. Forgetting that it is Voldemort’s Horcrux, Dumbledore being cursed that leads to his ultimate death. The ring later being given to Harry.
When Did Harry Drop The Resurrection Stone?
Before he meets Lord Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest, Harry uses The Resurrection Stone and sees the shade of his loved ones: his parents, Remus Lupin, and Sirius Black.
After having a brief conversation with them, and how they are always with Harry, Harry drop The Resurrection Stone intentionally, and faces his death in the hand of his sworn enemy, Lord Voldemort.
That being said, Harry is never dead. Voldemort, instead, kills his own Horcrux which he accidentally made when he wanted to kill Harry for the first time.
Why Did Harry Drop The Resurrection Stone?
So why actually did Harry drop The Resurrection Stone?
It is basically because Harry knows how powerful the stone is and that it can be used for wrong and evil purposes if it falls to the wrong hands. Wants to destroy the stone once and for all—just like how Harry throws away The Elder Wand because of how powerful it is—Harry drop The Resurrection Stone in the woods, where no one knows where it is.
J.K. Rowling also suggests that she imagines the stone to be squashed into the ground by centaurs’ hoof, so basically it is destroyed.
Harry also never wants to use The Resurrection Stone and brings back the dead ones. Besides, he also knows that the stone does not really resurrect the dead, but instead only bring back their “shades”.
If the stone is combined with another two Hallows (The Elder Wand and the Invisibility Cloak) the one who has them will become the Master of Death. Never wants to be any of it and just want to live a normal life, Harry drop The Resurrection Stone and let it be gone.
