Perhaps you are aware of the fact that the Accel World manga ended in June. Therefore, a reasonable question is in the air, what about Accel World Season 2? Do we need to wait for another half of the decade before Sunrise Inc. makes its decision? The franchise creators hinted numerous times that they are ready to produce another installment of the Accel World anime. However, since then, there has been no official news on the subject. After the light novel hit the popularity level, the manga series came into the market in 2010. Reki Kawahara is the writer of the Accel World Manga series, and Hima is the illustrator. Manga also proved to be a hit, so studio Sunrise (“Code Geass Season 3“, “Cowboy Bebop”, “Tiger & Bunny“) decided to adapt it into anime series.
One OVA was aired on 13th September 2012, and the second OVA made an appearance on 31st January 2013. The name of these OVAs was kept as Accel World EX. To keep the hope and attraction alive in fans’ hearts, the production house released the movie Accel World: Infinite Burst on 23rd July 2016. Viz Media released the English Dub of this movie in the USA in 2019.
After the release of this film, no proclamations are made by the officials of Accel World. Fans are waiting for nine long years for the release of season 2.
Will there be Accel World Season 2?
In fact, there are many favorable indicators in favor of the version that Accel World Season 2 could happen. The first and the most valuable of them is that there is enough source material in the original light novel series to produce at least one more season of the anime. The first season of Accel World covers just several volumes of the original novel. So there are plenty of materials for another television adaptation. Another good sign is that the franchise is continuing to extend. Accel World vs. Sword Art Online PS4/PS Vita Game is a firm confirmation of this assumption. An anime film subtitled Infinite Burst that premiered in July 2016 is just another point in favor of this theory.
Source Material Information for Accel World Season 2
The first fact is, enough source material is present for the release of Accel World Season 2. There are 25 volumes of light novel series. Out of which, 1-4 and 10th volume is used in season 1, and 19th volume is used in the Accel World: Infinite Burst film. So, season 2 might adapt 5th and after volumes if released. At their Japan Expo USA panel, Yen Press announced the rights to publish the light novels in English.
Secondly, Accel World is worth continuation, since the ending of the first season of the anime doesn’t seem to be completed. So, if the authors will add some new curves of the plot borrowed from the original light novel, it would be greatly showcased in the further episodes of the series. An anime film, as well as video games of the franchise, all have a bit different storylines. We need something more valuable to complete the anime series. In any case, if the second season happens someday, it would be the last season of the series.
Profits and Popularity of Accel World Season 2
Another significant indicator is a reception by the viewers. We can’t consider this index excellent, but the figure seems to be enough to judge the popularity of the anime among the target audience. On MyAnimeList, Accel World has a score of 7.28/10 ~ 300,000+ user votes. Not a top-rated anime, actually, but still. On IMDb, we can note almost the same figure, 7,1/10 ~ 1,900 votes. The viewers of Hulu, on the other hand, have rated the first season of the series at 4.7/10 based on over 6,150 votes. So, in general, we conclude that the viewers were satisfied watching the first season of Accel World.
Delay in Accel World Season 2?
If you are thinking that despite Accel World Anime being popular among the fans, why there is no Season 2? Then two main reasons might have affected the release of Season 2.
The first reason is Studio Sunrise is busy with more popular and profitable projects like Love Live! School Idol Project. This anime is more popular, and Sunrise has already made a lot out of it and is continuing. So, we can guess that Accel World 2 might not be on their priority list.
The second reason might be Sword Art Online. As Reki Kawahara is the common author of SAO and Accel World, the Accel world manga edition is released at a slow pace. SAO is more popular than Accel World, so it is left behind.
Accel World Season 2 Release Date
We know that you are bored of waiting for renewal within five tedious years. Unfortunately, the world of anime plays its own game. As mentioned above, we assume that Accel World Season 2 could happen. However, we doubt that the announcement will follow this year due to the release of the video game. Of course, the series creators had enough time to produce another installment of the anime.
However, they still need some time to promote the new season (if it exists in the cards). So the more likely date for Season 2 is 2023 or 2024. But no one knows when this event could happen. Accel World Action
Haruyuki Arita is an overweight, bullied middle schooler who finds solace in playing online games. But his life takes a drastic turn one day when he finds that all his high scores have been topped by Kuroyukihime, the popular vice president of the student council.
She then invites him to the student lounge and introduces him to “Brain Burst,” a program that allows the users to accelerate their brain waves to the point where time seems to stop. Brain Burst also functions as an augmented reality fighting game, and in order to get more points to accelerate, users must win duels against other players. However, if a user loses all their points, they will also lose access to Brain Burst forever.
Kuroyukihime explains that she chose to show Haruyuki the program because she needs his help. She wants to meet the creator of Brain Burst and uncover the reason why it was created, but that’s easier said than done; to do so, she must defeat the “Six Kings of Pure Color,” powerful faction leaders within the game, and reach level 10, the highest level attainable.
After the girl helps Haruyuki overcome the bullies that torment him, he vows to help her realize her goal, and so begins the duo’s fight to reach the top.
