Never runs out of new shows, Netflix has officially greenlit a new crime mystery TV series based on a best seller novel, The Night Agent.
Based on a New York Time best-seller novel with the same title by the author Matthew Quirk, Shawn Ryan (who is an Emmy nominee) will create this new upcoming TV show. It is reported that Seth Gordon will direct the first episode of the series. Seth Gordon previously has also been working on another projects such as Atypical and For All Mankind.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television, The Night Agent will be landed on Netflix and will consist of 10 episodes. Shawn Ryan first revealed the development of the TV show in December 2020, while Netflix announced the project back in July 2021.
Ryan previously stated that The Night Agent is a kind of book which he has read and he decided to adapt for television. He added that he may even have already finished writing the pilot episode.
Since the TV show hasn’t been released yet, there is no score from any platform for the show. However, Good Reads has given 3.92 out of 5 stars for the novel The Night Agent, with 2.408 ratings and 328 reviews. The book consists of 410 pages that is full of suspense, mystery, and twists, therefore it is not surprising that many people love it—and waiting to see it on the screen.
The Night Agent will basically follow the story of an FBI agent who will try to save the nation by tackling terrorists attack. Since the book is gaining such a massive success, will the TV series follow its steps?
When Will The Night Agent be Released?
The book originally was released back on January 15, 2019. Although the development of the TV series has been revealed since December 2020, we do not have any information regarding how far the development is right now. This is most likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic that might delay the on-going process.
Anyway, since the year of 2021 is almost over, we most likely will see The Night Agent at any point in 2022 at the earliest, or until we get further information from Netflix.
The Night Agent: The Plot
Since there is no official synopsis for the show, we can predict the plot to be solely based on the novel.
The Night Agent follows the story of a low-ranking FBI agent named Peter Sutherland who is involved in a dangerous conspiracy and needs to save the nation by stopping a Russian spy in the White House.
When Peter was still a kid, his father who was a section chief in FBI counterintelligence was suspected for selling to Russians the secrets of the nation. It then destroyed his career and his life as well.
Learn from this, Peter always follows the rule and everything from the book, so that his father’s past does not bother him anymore. Until he is chosen to work in the White House Situation Room. Long story short, after a sudden call came when he was at his night shift, Peter knows that there is a traitor in the White House and that he has to hunt and find the traitor before it is too late.
The Night Agent: The Cast and Trailer
Sadly, there hasn’t been any official announcement regarding the cast, so we do not have any idea who will appear on the show. It will be quite hard to predict as well, since there is no any hint from the creators.
While for the trailer, it usually comes out not so long before the show is actually released. So until we are getting closer to the official release date, only then we can hope to see the trailer of this highly anticipated upcoming TV series.
