The Umbrella Academy is due for its third season. After a crazy opening in the present, the trip to the future and a second season set in 1963, the third season awaits. In the last minute of season 2, it was already introduced, as a rival group is waiting for the siblings. A lot is already known about season one of The Umbrella Academy, we take you through everything we know.
What was it all about?
To prevent the end of the world, all the members of The Umbrella Academy were shot back in time. We ended up in 1963, only not all family members arrived at the exact same time. So it takes some time they find each other again and have built a new life. The world is subsequently saved, but now themselves. Everything comes together on the day of the assassination of John F. Kennedy in Dallas and the group travels back to their own time. They have only made two small mistakes. First, they don’t return on the same day they came from. Second, they talked to their father in 1963. This has big consequences, because father has gathered a new group of super kids: The Sparrows. We see that group in the final shot of season 2, which is the introduction to season 3.
The Sparrows
In November 2020, The Umbrella Academy was renewed for a third season. In the meantime, a lot has happened. The Sparrows were soon announced. A familiar face in this is Ben. In the first two seasons, the deceased brother of the Academy was still around, as Klaus could see him. Ben had a crucial role in 1963 and that really put an end to him. Apparently, father did select him for The Sparrows. With two brothers, three sisters and a mystery block. C.G. Cube.
Shooting underway, salaries skyrocket
Filming was scheduled to run from February through August. Due to the pandemic, it was questionable whether this would work out, but the actors themselves gave the redeeming answer in mid-February. Shooting had started and so far there have been no reports of a delay. In addition, it appears that there was a lot of negotiation with the various actors. The contracts had to be renewed towards the third season and Variety revealed that all the lead actors have negotiated a higher compensation. They would now receive more than $200,000 per episode. So with ten episodes in the works, that’s good for over two million. Elliot Page is said to be unrelated to this. He was already getting a higher salary, as Page was the most established actor of the group.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 on Netflix
During Netflix Geeked Week, creator Steve Blackman stopped by to share the first news about The Umbrella Academy. No footage was available yet, as the series is being worked hard on. However, he was able to share all the episode titles with us.
The ten episodes all have a title, from which in some cases you can already get something. Meet the Family is the opener of the season, it is obvious this means The Sparrows. Kugelblitz raises questions. This is a concentration of heat, light or radiation so intense that its energy forms a perceptual horizon and locks itself in. In episode eight, a wedding is hinted at, but between whom? And Marigold is a term that has come along before in The Umbrella Academy. It refers to the energy spheres used to create the siblings, including their superpowers.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 Release Date
So the filming will be completed in August. The question then is when The Umbrella Academy season 3 will appear on Netflix (“Lupin Season 3, Queen of the South“). The rest of 2021 is jam-packed with new releases of top series. It is therefore obvious that time will be taken quietly and season 3 will not be seen until 2022. Possibly this will be like the first season in mid-February, but this is still only an assumption. In any case, 2022 is certain.
