Will there ever be Azur Lane Season 2? What are the odds?
Azur Lane, one of the many anime series that falls under the action and Sci-Fi genres. The anime has a strong military aspect as the story takes place in a world where wars between kingdoms and nations still exist.
The anime series Azur Lane is an adaptation based on a video game of the same name created by Chinese developers Shanghai Manjuu and Xiamen Yongshi. The video game has been released for both Android and IOS in 2017. It was first launched in China and Japan in May and September 2017, respectively. The game was pretty popular, as it has reached five million players count in Japan since its first release. It even ranked top five on Google Play’s Best Game of 2017 list for the region.
Renewal Status of Azur Lane Season 2
An anime adaptation of the series was later announced in September 2018. The one that’s in charge of animating the adaptation is Bibury Animation Studios, best known for their most popular anime release, the second season of The Quintessential Quintuplets.
There is also another anime adaptation of Azur Lane based on the manga series written and illustrated by Hori, entitled Azur Lane: Bisoku Zenshin! (Azur Lane 4-Koma: Slow Ahead). The adaptation was served as a side story rather than a sequel. Yostar Pictures, together with CANDY BOX, are the ones that produced the anime adaptation. Surprisingly, despite being a newcomer in the scene, both of these studios have successfully attracted some of the fan’s attention, even more than the main anime series.
The television anime series Azur Lane was premiered on October 3, 2019, and ran for twelve episodes before concluding on Mar 20, 2020. The anime series was initially planned to be finished on December 26, 2019, but due to production issues, the last two episodes were delayed to March 13 and 20, 2020 respectively.
On the other hand, Azur Lane: Bisoku Zenshin! had started to premiere on January 12, 2021, and ran for twelve episodes before concluding on March 30 of the same year.
After the first season of the main series has ended, many of the fans are craving a sequel. So, what is the renewal status of Azur Lane Season 2?
As of now, we haven’t received any information from any studio related to the series regarding Azur Lane Season 2. We don’t know whether the anime series will get a season renewal or not.
What are the odds of Azur Lane Season 2?
There is a possibility for Azur Lane Season 2, but the chances are rather slim. The main reason is that the main anime series was not well received by many of the fans. It has received a not-so-good score of 6.29 in MyAnimeList. Azur Lane: Bisoku Zenshin, on the other hand, had a great run and many of the fans were left satisfied with it. It received a decent score of 7.05 on the same platform.
The majority of the fans that can be seen in the Reddit forum, said that they were unsatisfied with the main series adaptation. That said, there is a great chance that Azur Lane Season 2 will be done by another studio, and the most obvious candidate is Yostar Pictures, the new studio that has received a lot of praises from the fans.
At the end of the day, if the studio is currently producing Azur Lane Season 2, we would have to wait at least a year or two for Azur Lane Season 2 to be released. But this is just a speculation and not an absolute matter to be used as gospel, so don’t get your hopes up just yet.
Azur Lane Action
When the “Sirens,” an alien force with an arsenal far surpassing the limits of current technology, suddenly appeared, divided humanity stood in complete solidarity for the first time. Four countries—Eagle Union, Royal Navy, Sakura Empire, and Iron Blood—formed Azur Lane, paving the way for the improvement of modern warfare, which led to an initial victory against the common threat. However, this tenuous union was threatened by opposing ideals, dividing the alliance into two. Sakura Empire and Iron Blood broke away and formed the Red Axis, and humanity became fragmented once again.
As a seasoned and experienced fighter, the “Grey Ghost” Enterprise shoulders Azur Lane’s hope for ending the war. But behind her stoic persona hides a frail girl, afraid of the ocean. Even so, she continues to fight as she believes that it’s the only purpose for her existence. Meanwhile, Javelin, Laffey, and Unicorn—three ships from the union—stumble upon Ayanami, a spy from the Red Axis. Strange as it may seem, they try to befriend her, but as enemies, their efforts are for naught. Still, they persevere in hopes of succeeding one day.
Amidst the neverending conflict within humankind, the keys that could unite a fragmented race might exist: a soldier coming to terms with her mysterious personality and camaraderie between those with different ideals.
