Caution: This article contains spoilers of the Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is the fourth installment of Resident Evil in computer graphics to be released and the first to be presented as a series. Resident Evil: Degeneration, Resident Evil: Damnation, and Resident Evil: Vendetta were all CGI films, starring Leon Kennedy, one of the fans’ favorite characters, and set at different points in the Resident Evil canon.
Although Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is classified as a “computer-generated anime”, it has little to do with traditional 2D anime, or even similar 3D films like Gantz: O. The character design and overall animation are closer to real-life action, and the series is more like a big-show action movie divided into four 25-minute parts than an ordinary anime. With a unique format and an intriguing story, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness opens the door to a second season – but will it really happen?
Renewal of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Season 2
It’s too early to confirm if Season 2 of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is guaranteed, or if there will be a movie sequel or any other type of continuation. Given the popularity of the franchise and the success of Resident Evil Village, it’s no exaggeration to believe that a new title will arrive sooner than expected in the form of another CGI-animated series like Infinite Darkness, a new CGI animated movie like Resident Evil: Vendetta, or perhaps a series in the style of a traditional 2D anime. According to Anime News Network, TOKYOPOP will release an adaptation of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness in the form of a manga graphic novel, but it remains to be seen how many new elements will be added.

Given the wide variety of formats that the Resident Evil franchise encompasses, it is difficult to determine precisely what the next title planned by Capcom will be. If Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness season 2 gets the green light and starts production as soon as possible, it could arrive on Netflix in late 2022 or early 2023. However, it is likely that the film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City and the television series Resident Evil will postpone the next anime in computer graphics by a few years.

Possible Plot of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Season 2
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness reveals that Secretary Wilson was the mastermind of the White House attack. He intended to create an international conflict fueled by biological warfare in order to take advantage of the cure for the virus. Infinite Darkness ends with Wilson, now infected, receiving the remedy himself, but instead of the infamous Umbrella Corporation, it was Tricell who made it. This is a reference to infinite darkness’ place in resident evil’s timeline, specifically between Leon Kennedy’s mission in Resident Evil 4 and Tricell’s twisted weaponry of the Uroboros virus in Resident Evil 5.
The end of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness could be a nod to fans who have played Resident Evil 5 and who know that Tricell is doomed or an announcement of a new storyline taking place before or during the events of the game. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Season 2 could follow Secretary Wilson, Tricell, or even Umbrella in pursuit of their evil plans in secret, despite the fact that Tricell is doomed to disappear soon.
