Will there ever be Snow White with the Red Hair Season 3? When will we see it?
Snow White with the Red Hair is one of the many shoujo shows that fall under the drama, fantasy, and romance genres. One might think that Snow White with the Red Hair shares some similarities to the story of the original Snow White, but it is actually not true at all.
Unlike Walt Disney’s Snow White, the anime series Snow White with the Red Hair follows the story of a young girl with apple-red hair who is also a town herbalist named Shirayuki, as she unexpectedly encountered a young boy named Zen, who is actually the second prince of a town called Clarines. After a series of events, they began to develop romantic feelings for each other, but due to their difference in status, they have to face a lot of struggles along the way.
Snow White with the Red Hair began life as a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Sorata Akizuki. It was first serialized in Hakusensha’s bi-monthly shoujo manga magazine LaLa DX from September 2006 to November 2011 and the series moved to the main magazine LaLa ever since then. As of June 2021, there are twenty-four volumes that have been published.
The manga series has been licensed in English by VIZ Media under the Shojo Beat imprint since May 7, 2019. The latest volume of the translation, which is the 18th, is planned to be released on April 5, 2022.
Snow White with the Red Hair Season 3 Renewal Status
An anime adaptation of the same name was first announced in the 2015 April issue of Hakusensha’s LaLa magazine. The adaptation was animated by Bones, the studio that has been getting a lot of recognition ever since it started. They are best known for their popular anime releases such as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (top anime according to MyAnimeList), My Hero Academia, Noragami, and last but not least, Mob Psycho 100.
The anime series Snow White with the Red Hair was premiered on July 7, 2015, and ran for twelve episodes before concluding on September 22 of the same year. It was followed by a single ova episode on January 5, 2016. The second season was later released on Jan 12, 2016, and also ran for twelve episodes before concluding March 29.
After the second season has concluded, many of the fans are craving a sequel, thus demanding Snow White with the Red Hair Season 3. So, what is the renewal status of the anime?
As of now, we haven’t received any words from the author or the production team regarding Snow White with the Red Hair Season 3. We don’t know whether there will be a season renewal or not as nothing has been confirmed yet. However, the good thing is that the show hasn’t been canceled either.

Although nothing has been officially confirmed yet, it is best to believe that Snow White with the Red Hair Season 3 would be highly unlikely. By the end of the second season, after all of the credits and song have ended, you can clearly see the word ‘fin’, which is actually a French word that translates to ‘end’. This may indicate that the second season will be the last season that we get to see, and it may not receive further renewal.
Not to mention, shoujo manga usually never get more than two seasons, and furthermore, it has been six years since the second season aired. The same thing happened to Spice and Wolf, a shoujo show that has received a lot of demand for a third season just like Snow White with the Red Hair.
Also, unlike shounen, shoujo shows are usually used as a marketing tool and promotion. Unfortunately, it is possible that the Blu-ray and DVD sales from the first two seasons were poor and didn’t make enough profit.
Although in terms of source material, the studio would have more than enough of them to make a season renewal. The first two seasons have only covered the first eight out of twenty-four volumes. The studio can easily make two or even more seasons with the available material.
Considering those things above, it is safe to assume that Snow White with the Red Hair Season 3 would be highly unlikely. But once again, it hasn’t been canceled by the studio, so there might still be a chance for a season renewal.
