Will there ever be We Never Learn Season 3? Will we ever get to see a sequel?
We Never Learn, otherwise known as Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai (Bokuben) in Japanese, is one of the many harem shows that pursue the comedy and romance genres. On the surface, We Never Learn clearly resembles The Quintessential Quintuplets, especially when it comes to the premise.
The main characters of both shows were placed in the same circumstances that forced them to tutor five girls of his school, in which each of them has completely different natures. However, in We Never Learn, the guy was actually put into a situation where he must teach two well-known geniuses of the school.
We Never Learn started off as a Japanese manga series entitled Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai written and illustrated by Taishi Tsutsui. It has been serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from February 6, 2017, to Dec 21, 2020. It ran for 187 individual chapters that have been collected into a total of 21 tankobon volumes by Shueisha.
Just like the manga series Demon Slayer, the first three chapters of Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai were published in English as We Never Learn by Viz Media in their digital Weekly Shonen Jump on the same day as the Japanese release as part of the “Jump Start” program. Later, the series was officially added into Weekly Shonen Jump’s lineup and soon licensed the series in English of physical releases since then.
We Never Learn Season 3 Renewal Status
An anime adaptation of the manga series We Never Learn was first announced in the 39th issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump on August 27, 2018. It was animated by two studios that should be unfamiliar to most of us, Silver and Avro Animation.
Before the We Never Learn project, Silver has released several hentai shows such as Idol Sister, Ore Wa Kanojo wo Shinjiteru, and Kime Koi. Avro Animation, on the other hand, is best known for its anime releases such as Monster Girl Doctor and Moon, Laika, and the Bloodsucking Princess.
The anime series We Never Learn was premiered on April 7, 2019, and ran for thirteen episodes before concluding on June 30 of the same year. It was followed by a standalone ova to the first season on November 1, 2019. A sequel in the form of a second season was later aired from October 6, 2019, to Dec 29, 2019, which also ran for thirteen episodes. And just as the first one, the studio has also released an ova series to the second season on April 3, 2020.
Ever since the release of the second ova series, neither the author nor the studio has said anything regarding the return of the series. We don’t know whether there will be a season renewal or not, but luckily, the show hasn’t been canceled either.
Will We Never Learn Season 3 be possible?
Unfortunately, We Never Learn Season 3 would be highly unlikely. The main reason is that the manga series has officially been ended. Most anime adaptations are made to promote the source, and if the source itself has already come to an end and stopped making sales, then producing a new season would be out of the question. Sadly, this is the case for We Never Learn.
Not to mention, the anime ended in a way that we are forced to read the manga afterward to see the continuation. In the manga series, each of the main heroines has their own route that you can choose, so basically, the ending is for you to decide. Meanwhile, in the anime, we didn’t get to see a proper ending, and we were not shown whom the main character ended up with, though it is obvious that Uruka was the one that ends up winning. Also, the second season ended with a time skip. It basically skipped several chapters and adapted the late chapters of the manga to conclude the anime series.
So, if you want to see your favorite main heroine being the winner, you should try reading the manga starting from the 69th chapter, which is around the Festival Arc. However, to get a more pleasing experience, you would be better off reading it from the beginning, as the anime series has skipped several important parts of the manga.
With that being said, it is best to believe that We Never Learn Season 3 would never be released. At this point, reading the manga is the only way for us to know the continuation of the story.
