The Duke of Death and His Maid is one of the few Summer 2021 anime that falls under the romance comedy genre. It is produced by J.C.Staff, the name that most anime watchers are already familiar with, as they can be seen across some of the most famous titles such as Toradora, Food Wars, and The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. J.C.Staff (How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom, Maid-Sama, DanMachi, Golden Time, Toradora, Prison School, Combatants Will Be Dispatched & The Demon Girl Next Door) is not the only studio that has been working on The Duke of Death and His Maid. They have collaborated with Shogakukan Music and Digital Entertainment (SMDE), the studio that is responsible for the CGI.
The anime is an adaptation of Koharu Inoue’s manga series of the same title that has begun serializing in the Sunday Webry web manga portal in October 2017. The 13th volume of the manga series has already been published by Shogakukan on July 12, 2021. The English version of the manga is already out as it was licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment on July 2, 2021.

The first season of the anime was first aired on July 4, 2021, and has finally concluded with a total of 12 episodes on September 19, 2021. After the release of the last episode, it was immediately followed by an announcement of a new sequel, which came to surprise many of the fans. As of now, there are no words yet coming from the author nor the studio regarding the release date of the second season. As the anime has only covered around 68 chapters out of 197 chapters from the manga, it is very likely that The Duke of Death and His Maid Season 2 will not be marked as the end of the anime series. Most importantly, the manga is currently still publishing, which means that we will receive more chapters in the near future. With that being said, the anime series will probably have a long run before coming to an end.

The story follows a young duke by the name of Bocchan, who was cursed by a witch when he was a child. The curse leads him to have an unwanted power that can kill every living thing that he ought to touch. As his power may be seen as dangerous for living a normal life, he was forced to move away from his family and lived in a mansion deep in the woods. However, he was not alone, as he was accompanied by his butler and maid, Rob and Alice.
The flirtatious maid Alice loves to tease Bocchan, and as time goes, his romantic feelings for Alice have become stronger. However, with his unfortunate ability, he is unable to interact with Alice. Therefore, he resolves to break free from the curse not only for himself but also for the sake of the future of the romantic relationship between him and Alice.
